Today we met with Declan's nephroligist (kidney doctor). It was eye opening in some ways and reassuring in others. I guess up until this point I have had my head in the sand and just focused on getting him home. Hearing that your child will never be "normal" and at best his health will be managed is eye opening and heart breaking. Right now his kidneys are functioning at 20%. Dialysis starts at 10%. Your kidney function is based on your creatinine level. Declan's at it highest was 2.4. An average infant his age is 0.5 Today his creatinine is was 1.4. It seems to be going down which is a good sign. His kidneys are a lot smaller then they should be and don't appear to look like normal kidneys on his sonograms. No one knows how they will change or function as he gets older. Currently he is on breast milk and special formula. As he gets older and starts eating normal food it could effect his kidneys. This was all upsetting but the doctor reassured us he is a long way from dialysis and is 100 % healthy in every other way. To quote him "there is no reason your son won[t be HS quarterback". I guess we will just take things day by day and keep praying for a miracle that his kidneys will start growing and acting normal. On a bright note his 24 hour culture came back and it doesn't appear he has an infection. We get the results of the 48 hours around 6 pm tomorrow. Hopefully they release him then if not first thing Monday.

first off, ((HUGS)) you have been through a lot this week! but, at least it's something manageable and the specialist is optomistic. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and send good vibes Declan's way keep us posted!
I'm sorry. I hope the doctor is right and it never becomes unmanageable. It sounds like the prognosis is pretty good, but it must be devastating. (hugs)

While I'm sad to hear you're dealing with all of this, I'm glad that you found out there's lots of hope for his situation. I hope he continues to improve and gets to join you at home soon. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.

Sorry to hear about Declan's kidneys. T & Ps that his kidneys hold their own. Ds has had kidney issues his whole life, we've been through dialysis and transplantation, and everything else that comes with it. His numbers we know well, if you ever need to ask questions or just scream about it, holler. I'm usually around...page me on 35+ though, if this board is moving fast.
Lots of T&Ps. I am sorry you are going through this and I am glad to hear the doctor was optimistic.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!

Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
Continuing to hope for good news! It sounds like you've got a good doc, hopefully he can continue to give you peace of mind as you navigate this situation. T&P!
