No Sleep... What Gives?

LO has always been a GREAT sleeper. (thank God!) But the past month has been terrible! He will get his normal bath, book and bottle and go right to sleep. Within an hour or two, he is awake and screaming. Then, we play the "lets eat a few ounces to get back to sleep" game at least twice more before morning.  We have let him CIO, and that worked for about a week... Just last week, we let him CIO and he screamed for an hour. We have said it was teething, but this is getting a bit out of control. He doesn't take a paci, so there is really no comforting him without picking him up. (patting the back quit working when he was about 2 months old...)

Anyone have any ideas about what to do, or am I the only one going through this?

Thanks ladies! *Also, can you believe it is almost time for our LOs to turn ONE?!?!* This year has flown :(

Re: No Sleep... What Gives?

  • We've also had more trouble with night sleep, along with other issues (like refusing to take the bottle).  I looked up the Wonder Weeks, and we're entering "leap 6" in week 37-ish.  The book totally described DD.  You might want to google it.  It's nice b/c they let you buy chapter-by-chapter, instead of buying an entire book when you don't really need half the information.

Now, that being said, the info in the book is more about how to get through this period with an explanation about the cognitive development that is causing such trouble.  Not so much information about how to overcome the fussiness.  But, I took comfort in the fact that this regression is not my "fault" per se.

    Good luck to you!

  • DS is still waking at least 3 times a night to feed, but he's never really slept through the night.  Best I've gotten out of him was waking once.  I know feeding him is going to possibly cause issues down the road, but he won't go back to sleep otherwise.  Plus he's actually eating, not comfort suckling.

Sorry, I know I'm no help except to confirm that you aren't the only one with a baby asking for several feedings during the night.  Here's to hoping both our LOs grow out of this soon.

  • I hear this could be when nighttime separation starts happening. What about a lovey to help soothe him? I'm sorry I don't have much advice, my daughter's sleeping is weird sometimes too still.

And yes, this year has flown! I'm excited for the holidays bc they are her first but I'm not ready for her to turn one. It makes me sad. Lol

  • DS doesn't seem to have a problem staying asleep at night, though occasionally you will hear him cooing to his monkey.

However, we've been struggling with him falling asleep.  He'll start off whining and then turns it into a full cry.  After maybe 10 minutes he'll stop and go to sleep.  He used to never be like this.  He gives all the signs and cues that he's tired; I really don't know why he doesn't just fall asleep like normal.

We still wake DS up around midnight to feed and change him one more time.  At this time, he'll go straight back to bed.
