5 Weeks Pregnant

Newbie

Hi everyone! I am farely new to the bump and am starting week 5 today! I can't believe that at the end of the week baby's heart will be pumping! We are starting to look at making our first appointment, the only hard part is we are in the process of moving right now and my DH already is living and working in the town we are moving to. I want to set up an appointment in the town we are moving tosince i'll be down there for a visit in two weeks, but I have no idea how to pick a OB. Since its just the first appointment should I just ask our insurance to pair with one or start doing some research? Any advice would be great!

Re: Newbie

  • In my opinion, after having 5 kids, I would consider a few things when trying to choose an OB: do you want a Doctor or Midwife? (For first time moms, and dads, a lot of people prefer a Dr in case something goes wrong in delivery. The truth is that a Dr is always available during delivery if you go with a Midwife, in case something goes wrong. So either choice is equally safe.) Then ask yourself if you prefer a male of female. Then, go to the website and look at the Drs you're considering.  I feel like seeing their faces helps me identify with them. Pick someone with a face you like, in hopes that their personality and yours will mesh well. Remember, your Dr doesn't need to be your best friend, but they need to make you feel like you and your baby are important to them and that you can trust their knowledge and expertise.

     Good luck, and Lord bless!
