First day at child care...

So my 21 month old son went to daycare for the first time yesterday. I was a mess all day... but he loved it. He ran right in and started playing and didn't want to go when it was time to be picked up. That's the good news. The bad news is that he has multiple mosquito bites, cuts, and is stained brown all over from playing under a walnut tree. I can't find a way to get the stain off of him or his cloths It took me a long time to find a child care facility that I liked and he liked and now I am worried.

What exactly are you worried about?

I'm home with my kid 2 days a week and she's a hot mess all day from being outside. Kids will be kids outside. Seems pretty normal to me.

I'm sure he was happy playing under the tree so daycare just let him be. I don't really see the harm. I have a yard full of walnut trees..LO loves them and is still here despite the mess they cause. I'm assuming the scratches are just from the sticks and leaves.

Also, don't send your kid to daycare in any clothes you want remotely kept clean. It never works.

The bug bites would bother me a bit but I'd just say, "Hey. I'm glad LO is outside, but can she be sprayed before you take her out..he seems susecpitble to bites."

I guess you could ask them to keep him inside all day, but that doesn't sound like much fun.

Seriously?  He's a kid.  Kids get dirty.  They get bumps and bruises.  He had a blast.  Chill out.

Sounds like a normal day for a kid - whether or not at daycare.

Sounds pretty normal to me.  DS comes home from daycare covered in dirt from playing outside.  He does the same thing at home. Just don`t send him in his best clothes if you are worried.

Once DD was mobile and able to run around outside and play, I stopped dressing her in nice clothes on a daily basis.  I SAH, but if she went to a daycare or a babysitter, I would never expect them to be responsible to keep her clothes clean.  She loves grubbing around in the dirt!  I scored some hand-me-downs and secondhand clothes for super cheap, and I let her wear them as everyday clothes, so I don't feel bad if they get stained or ruined beyond repair.

I would hate it, too - I don't want my kid or his clothes that dirty, go ahead and flame me, I couldn't care less.  I have all summer off work with my LO and he doesn't end up a hot mess when we play outside, and we play outside a TON.  I'd be upset about stained clothes, too - my sitter takes the kids outside during the school year and manages to keep all the kids clean like I do at home, why shouldn't they?  Playing outside doesn't have to mean playing in dirt!  Not to mention sticks, etc - they don't belong near a toddler IMO.  I do not let my 14 month old play with sticks and mud, and I'd give the side eye to people who would.  I think some of you guys telling her to chill out is a little uncalled for - who wants their kid messy, cut, and bug bitten?

I'd be very upset about any sort of cut on my LO, especially if he also came home dirty as well.  I'd talk to the daycare and see if that's normal.

first thing I learned was do not send clothes to daycare that you don't want to get ruined.  I learned that very quickly.

My daughter loves daycare and also comes home with some minor cuts once in a while.

Are you sure he got the mosquito bites at school? because mosquito bites don't come out right away.  If so you could talk to the teacher about it :)

     I wouldn't worry :)

    lol

    Word. You sound...umm...fun.

I get watching the kid and not letting them get too diasterous. But a little mud never killed a kid....lol. In fact it's pretty fun. And yes, my LO plays with sticks. Hasn't hurt her yet. It's not like I let her poke eyes out with them or anything. I guess I didn't see what the DCP was doing that was so awful. Kids get dirty.

And it's a lot easier to keep your kid clean when you live in a city with sidewalks and parks and pavement. When you live where I live and do what I do, then come tell me about how to keep my kid clean. I have bigger battles to fight than a kid with a bit of mud on her shirt. I'd rather my kid love trees, sand, cows, cats and the general outdoors moreso than love being clean! And for the record, I'm sure my kid has cut/bruised/hurt herself in the house 100xs more in the house than outside.

Go hit up walmart or a consignment shop and get some "daycare clothes". Or start investing in some oxyclean. My kid goes in home (where she is the only one watched) and still comes home dirty and with bumps and bruises. Its part of toddler hood. Also if your kid has never gotten a mosquito bite or bump on your watch then I would probably say you are lying, lol! :)

Wow first time I have ever felt bad for posting something on here. I guess I should have clarified a little bit. My issues wasn't that his cloths were dirty or that he was outside. He is outside most the day with me and I have tons of play cloths that we love to get dirty. Also we make it through a day with minor bumps and bruises but I was worried when my child comes home from being with a stranger all day with them. I also thought it was odd that he is now stained all over with huge brown spots, and will be for weeks, from the walnuts.

If he plays outside he will get scratches on him. I watch DD well when we're out in the yard but she still comes in with scratches on her.

Why do you find it odd that he's stain all over from the walnuts?

I would be worried if my LO did NOT come home with stained clothing and dirty hands.
