2nd Trimester

Warm in Wild and Wonderful!

I am due in Feb 20th, I am a new mommy!! I just moved to WV, we are more in the mountains so the weather is about a few weeks ahead that where my husband and I grew up! I am told by locals that this winter is going to be a bad one! ( my husband started this job last Feb before I followed him and he said it snowed all the time 2feet at a time!!! when 2hrs down the road where we grew up it was 40 or 50 degree's,)! I am wondering if the car seat blanket thing its by jj cole it's called bundle me! is warm enough for the short trips to the car, store, and such... or should i look into getting a snow suit, and if i should get one, and where and what is the best?  also what are ya'll thoughts about the jj cole bundle me? is it worth getting?!

Re: Warm in Wild and Wonderful!

  • I've heard a lot of people on the boards give good reviews of the bundle me. You probably don't need a snowsuit though, as your LO will be too young to go into the snow. Some of the cold weather mamas around here can give you more info on that, but layers and fleece sleepers seem to be the big thing for winter newborns.

I would really think about how often you will go out with the baby during your winter months. Winters are very mild where I live, but I really did go out much with DS for the first couple of months. It wasn't even a weather thing, so much as a newborn thing. They eat and sleep so often during that period, and they are so susceptible to germs, I think most mom's stick close to home for the most part.

  • yea I am in the boonies, I have to drive 30m to a Walmart, and 10 or 15m depending, to a Kroger Grocery store!  staying close to home ends up being longer trips than most mom's, also I will end up driving nearly an hour and a half to a doctor. right now my doctor sucks!!! she wont answer a question, so I am seeing the other two doc's in the practice and then if not I am going back to the doctor I saw in my home town, lucky she is at 2 locations!! home and just an hour and a bit down the road! :), but then baby doctor is pretty much going to be back home so 2 hours down the road! I wont bother going to a doctor up hear if I cant get a decent OBGYN.
  • It's an after-market product, which always has its risks when placed in the carseat.  I'm going with just the basic carseat cover so that the straps are not compromised and there is nothing between LO and the carseat.

**Please try a bit harder to actually write out complete sentences and complete thoughts.  This post was really REALLY hard to follow, and I'm used to editing Freshmen essay papers.  A good "What are your thoughts on the JJ Cole Bundle Me?" would have sufficed.

I think this is the cover I saw recommended, it's a shower cap style cover:  https://www.amazon.com/JJ-Cole-Seat-Cover-Graphite/dp/B00511J6BM/ref=pd_sbs_ba_3

    So not a bundle me.

This. You should NOT use anything between the baby and the car seat, in fact depending on the manufacturer, it could possibly void your warranty in the case of an accident (I know Britax is like that). I would just dress the baby warmly in layers and long sleeves and cover them with a blanket.

**And please pay special attention to the bolded.

If you'd look up previous questions about the Bundle me, you'd find out it wasn't safe. It's too big and bulky and will make the baby not sit correctly in the carseat, and can pose problems should you be involved in a accident. The "shower cap" style, one that goes on the outside if the carseat, is safer and will be better for baby in the long run. Think about, too, how you've said how long your drives are. Do you think it's safe for baby to be THAT bundled up in the car as its being heated? I don't.

This is a very good point.

You can't blame a learning disability on everything.

  • na I am not, just apologizing about the bad grammar and my post being confusing! I am in my last semester of college I have learned ways to get by, but I am not gonna send out a post on here, to an editor.. I try my best. I just am insecure about it, and would hope people would cut me some slack! rather than being nasty or mean about it... and note I am not blaming my LD on everything, this is my one problem, writing and reading comprehension.

Well, this debunks my theory that you are 15.

........people aren't going to cut you any slack if you keep DDing all your posts! And because you are new, DD means "Dirty Delete", which is a no-no around here.

  • There are debates about the bundle me... Sorry if I'm repeating anything but I don't tend to read other answers often. The amount of bulky fabric between your baby's back and the carseat compromises the efficiency of the safety harness and in many cases voids the warranty of the seat. Many moms and MTBs are choosing seat covers that go over top with an elastic and cover baby with a blanket. Baby will be warm enough this way without a bulky snowsuit or bundle me.
  • Are you wondering if you should put your baby in a snowsuit in the carseat? Because that would be an even bigger no-no than the bundleme. Strap them in first, then if you need to, put their arms through a backwards jacket so the jacket is not under the carseat straps. The bundleme is nice for strollers and doesn't make them unsafe.

I'm just glad you aren't FROM WV and writing with such poor grammar.  I wouldn't want people thinking we don't know how to write here in our wild and wonderful state.

  • I think we have the Bundle Me... If it's the one that goes over the car seat...  It's not safe to put one on the car seat and then put the baby in - compromises the safety of the seat.  Same goes for a snowsuit - not safe.

This is similar to the one we have: https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4389487&cagpspn=pla&pla=plab

Now that I'm looking - appears the Bundle Me goes under the baby https://www.diapers.com/p/jj-cole-bundleme-urban-infant-w-thermaplush-sassy-69590?site=CA&utm_source=cse&utm_medium=cpc_D&utm_term=JC-235&utm_campaign=Google&CAWELAID=1338761965&utm_content=pla&cagpspn=pla&ci_kw={keyword} so I wouldn't get that one.

Good luck with whatever you choose!
