What would you do???

DH gets only two days off work for delivery. I just got back from an appt. I'm 2cm, 80% effaced, membranes now stripped and measuring 46 weeks. OB gave option to be induced Fri or Sat. This would allow MH to have Sat thru Tues off - rather than just two days in a row. Otherwise, basically as soon as I'm home with baby, DH goes back to work. And if I end up with a c/s, then I'm alone in the hospital for a couple days. We will never get those "just brought LO home moments"back. Plus, I'm scared to be home alone as a FTM with a 3 ish day old.

What would you do??? I plan on an epi, so induction in terms of pain doesn't frighten me.

Thoughts???

  • ehh I don't know what I would do... if the induction doesn't take right away will the doctor give you the option to come back a few days later? sucks your DH is so pressured with work :-/

yeah... It sucks... He isn't getting pressure at work. He quit his job of 16 years and recently got one with the state. He just hasn't been there long enough to qualify for those types of benefits :(  big bummer....

  • I'd go for Fri over Sat. Like PP said, it's unlikely that anything will happen right away, and he wouldn't need to be there during early labor.

  • Due to my little guy's early arrival and the timing coinciding with our move into a new house, I was left alone at the hospital for 2 days while DH was off moving our shiit. Then when we finally got to bring Connor home that Saturday (after DH had been off for 1 week), DH had to go back to work on Sunday. And he works 24 hour shifts.

What I'm saying is, you can do it. Your instincts will kick in. Plus, I actually kind of appreciated being able to figure things out on my own.

  • Your cervix isn't really favorable for an induction so I'd be nervous to end up with an unnecessary c/s just bc of your DHs work schedule. Favorable = 3cm.

    GL deciding.

  • Did your OB give you a bishop score?  (Dilation, effacement, baby's station, cervix position and one more thing I can't remember....)

I'd be scared to induce if your bishop score was on the low end just because I'm terrified of a C-section.

  • I was "unfavorable" by that definition too. My induction went great. The first 10 hours were very uneventful, but if your doctor is recommending it and it might help your Dh spend more time with you, go for it. GL!!
