Cloth Diapering

What do you like about your alva's?

Tell me about your alvas. What do you like about them? What don't you like?Has anyone used them through multiple children? And have they help up well?

Also, I am super confused by their site. Which ones are the "normal" diapers. I don't get it. Can someone explain how to navigate through this for me?

  • I think all the different types of diapers are just different pattern options.  That was my understanding and all the ones I got were their standard pocket diaper.

I like the price and the quality is decent.  I don't like the absorbency, which I am sure I could fix with new inserts.  My BG 4.0's can go 3 (or more I'm sure) hours during the day where my Alva's are soaking by 2ish.  I won't even consider them at night, they'd never make it.

  • So far Alvas and Kawaii are my favorites.  I love the bamboo blend inserts that they have.  Can't say that I have noticed a difference in the absorbency of the MF inserts from one brand to another yet, but my son is only 7 weeks old.  They are well made and fit nicely, and they have an amazing price for the quality!

Here's the chart for deciphering the various series.

A series: Are all Minky with suedecoth inners

B series: Solid color PUL with suedecloth inners

C series: aka 4.0 or DG. double gusset.PUL suedecloth inner and snap in MF insert

D series: minky with suedecloth inner, except D14

    E series: E1-E2=suedecloth, E03-E13=fleece, E14-E18=seudecloth, E19-E22=fleece, all are PUL outer except E1, E2, E14, E15, E16, E17, E18, which are minky.

F series: PUL with suedecloth inners

G series: all are fleece inner, all PUL outers except G03, G04 & G12 which are minky

H series: H01 & H02 are minky, the others are PUL, inners are all suedecloth

    J series: J02 & J03 are PUL/fleece, J01 PUL/suedecloth

    Y series- Y01, Y04, Y08, Y09, Y10 all PUL with suedecloth, Y05, Y06, Y07 are minky withsuedecloth

    M series-minkywith suedecloth

    N series-PUL with suedecloth

  • The price is good for starters! They have cute prints. For NB size, my only complaint is the leg gusset. My DS has skinny legs that don't quite fit so I wish they had double gussets. I would recommend the bamboo blend insert over the MF, I can definitely tell a difference in how much they can absorb.

  • Their "Color Snap" diapers are by far my fave pocket diaper. The inserts agitate out which is a major bonus in by book (I hate unstuffing!). They fit well and can accommodate all of the stuffing we need to do to get through night time. They have an inner gusset which I could take or leave. They also have a PUL panel in the front for tummy sleepers, which I like. The color snaps I think have their own category. It think they're $6.99 apiece.

  • The new color snap diapers (4.0s) are probably my favorite diapers right now!

You might try one first and make sure youdon't have an issue with the suidecloth. I know some babies are sensitive to it. I got a 4.0 with bamboo lining from a coop this week and it is SO soft!

  • They're cheap and cute. I haven't had them long enough to speak to the  durability.

I really like the 4-layer bamboo/microfiber inserts. A lot better than the plain MF the diaper comes with. Buy some of those if you put in an order.

  • Alva 4.0s make up 2/3 of my stash and I love them!  They hold a lot and have more room for growing than the 3.0s.  The price is great and the colors are bright.  If you want them in the cute designs, you'll either have to go through a co-op that is ordering custom diapers, buy from the Loving AlvaBaby B/S/T group on Facebook or order them on ebay from natasia61589.  She's my favorite seller.  I prefer buying from the group because there are tons of WAHMs selling them for a decent price including shipping most of the time.  You can also find bamboo blend or charcoal bamboo inserts, which are my favorites.
