Playroom help! PsIP!

I need playroom help!  Especially with Christmas coming up.  We are currently using our dinning room and you'll see the table is in the room, it has nowhere else to go.  We could put it in the basement with the chairs, but we'd rather not.

I need help figuring out how things should be arranged, plus I could use some awesome organization ideas.  I watch three children two days a week, so those are two small high chairs stacked under the table and one of the bins on the table holds their stuff.  The other two hold art and music supplies.

I don't want anything big directly in the doorway areas.  Since taking the pictures I moved the little table and put the rice table in its place.  I would love to move the little table back into the room somewhere.

Re: Playroom help! PsIP!

  • My first thought is that little bookshelf you have?  Upgrade to a bigger one, or one of the square box organizer cabinets (obviously I don't know the real name of them) with the fabric bins.  Then it could be books/toys/storage.  You could put it beside the tent. OR get one of the IKEA bookshelves and lay it sideways, and have the storage bins for toys, and the top becomes a bench.

Google image "playroom storage" for a TON of ideas, furniture-wise.  Also, what if you ditched the big table you have for one that is narrower and more rectangular?  It might give you more floor space.

I would do something like this along the wall with the tent to hold your art/music supplies and to store toys.  Then the table area won't look so cluttered.

I love this room! I love the storage with the seating on top. So functional!

  • I'd put the play kitchen and baby doll items in one area with the mini table in front of it, like a little house set up along the wall with the windows. I'd put the tent and the water table? by the kitchen table. that leaves the big wall for a cubby/basket and/or bookshelf system for the small toys.

  • Buy an expedit unit from ikea (usually there are a lot for cheap on craigslist) to replace the bookshelf and store the toy bins in it as well as anything not childcare related in the top boxes of the unit. Put it in between the windows. Move the sensory table against the wall next to the tent. Um...thats all I have for now.

ETA: for more storage, instead of putting the books in the expedit, get some wall mounted book ledges and put those on the wall where the book shelf is. When I have a small room the best thing to do IMO is to build up. Use the wall space, hooks, floating shelves, etc.

wall shelves https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20126065/ I like these because the kids can see the covers on the books

  • Wow. Crazy. Like PP said, you need some shelving units for sure. But my other suggestions to get rid of some stuff. Seriously, do kids need that many toys? Yikes.

    Thanks everybody for your advice.

I like the Ikea shelf, now to convince the hubs that it's time to make the trip (Ikea is about 2 hours away).  I really do need a nice storage system where I can put the art supplies out of her reach.
