Pre-school observation

I sent an email to one of the contacts I met when Peyton was going through the initial county preschool process.  I told her how much trouble we were having with finding a preschool, yadayadayada (she had called around to try and find somewhere local after we were denied but came up mostly empty handed as well). She did invite us to go on all of the schools trips, which I believe they go once a month.  That way they could keep an eye on Peyton and she could interact with the kids, etc.

When I gave her some updates on P's behavior and told her how we were unable to really find a good school fit she invited me in to observe her class.  I'm sure this was to convince me not to pursue her getting in any farther but on the contrary.  These children were normal in my eyes.  The first set was 4 little boys who were very young, one of them turns 2 tomorrow.  The next were 3 children more P's age but they were less 'active' than the first group.  They kept to themselves except for the little boy who cried the entire time and had to be held.

So we are having another meeting set up with the head of the program and I was told that if they still can't get her in to the program, she is going to propose to use her as a reverse (neurotypical) peer in her Mon/Wed class.  Their is another little girl in there who is fairly vocal.  She said she is on the list next year for a neurotypical peer as well for the 3 year old room.  However..NT peers don't normally have issues, which we have.  So i'm just worried we are going to get he runaround again.

She will only go for 2 hours, 2 days a week.  And if we do the reverse peer model I will drive her to this school instead of the location closer to us.  But it's only about 35 mins away so I'm fine with doing that.  I don't know how comfortable I am with her riding the bus anyway.

I'm mildly optimistic this will work out.  They could be stringing me along so I don't go psycho lol.  I need to figure out how to leave emotions out of this stuff, and I feel less able to do that knowing most places have already denied us and this is the only option I see being feasible.

I'm taking her in next Friday morning to the class to do her own type of play/observation.  And then the official meeting is on the 10th.

Wish me luck!

(They also said I can stay and do volunteer work on the other side of the school, during the time she is there, and even bring Morgan.  I'm sure I won't do this everyday but atleast it would give me something to do since she's only there 2 hours!)

Re: Pre-school observation

  • Good luck!  I saw your post the other day, but I didn't have time to reply (2 sick kiddos).  It sounds like this would be a really good fit for Peyton.  I'm crossing my fingers for you!
