I will try to give you the condensed version of my birth story. Maya was born via c- section at 28 weeks weighing 1 lb 12 oz. I had my first high blood pressure reading at my 2 week OB check up on 8/29. DH is an RN and had checked my blood pressure at home a couple of more times and it was still high so I contacted my dr and went in again on 9/5. At that time they decided to admit me to the hospital for 24 hours for observation and to run tests because my blood pressure was really high and wasn't coming down when they gave me medication. Once the tests started coming back they started preparing me to expect to be on bed rest for the duration of the pregnancy. But after more and more tests they did not like they way the results were coming back (for those of you who are well versed in these issues I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome). So they started preparing me for the possibility of an early delivery. On 9/7 at 8am they ran another set of tests. The results came in at 9am and they told me they couldn't wait any longer, they didn't like what was happening with my liver and kidney functioning and platelet counts, it was time to deliver and the room was full of people getting me prepped. Maya was born at 9: 48am weighing 1 lb 12 oz. She cried 2 loud cries immediately and is able to breath on her own although they do have her on a cpap to help her lungs fully inflate. She is so beautiful and is slowly gaining weight. Right now she is 2 lb but her weight fluctuates daily which makes me anxious. She is very spunky and keeps trying to free herself from her little NICU swaddle bed that they use, she is persistent in trying to free her legs and arms.
She's doing well I think given everything. I'm totally ignorant to all things preemie and hope to learn from you all.
Re: Intro with birth story
Congrats! I had 28 weekers too. Let us know if you have any specific questions.

Dd came home last week after 79 days in the NICU and is now 7 lbs and doing great. Good luck to you and your dd.
Congrats and welcome!
That is definitely good that she is feisty...DS was a feisty 2 lb. 9 ouncer and did great in the NICU....the nurses always told us how good it was that he was always moving around :-) I wouldn't worry too much about the weight fluctuations at this point...it takes a little time for preemies, since their bodies are not prepared for digesting food like a FT baby would. She'll put on the pounds before you know it!
