So as I may have mentioned a while ago, we were on the verge of a baby boom here at work. Well...the babies (four I think...to an office of just over 120) have arrived. The moms are all on ML, and the questions regarding "where am I going to pump" have started. When it was me, I asked...and what did I get? The handicap shower stall in the locker room of our gym. Definitely a contributing a factor in why I didn't go the distance...quitting the pumping/breastfeeding after being back to work just two months. Now? They are going to convert one of our service rooms to a room specifically dedicated to the new moms for pumping. Complete with comfy chair, PRIVACY (I always had to deal with people wanting to converse with me through the shower curtain or listening to a group of them in the locker discussing what I was doing), tv, etc. A bit bittersweet, and quite honestly I am bit upset by this that they are just now doing something to address this.
Re: *sigh*...why could this not have happened when it was me??
That sucks.
I pumped in our office bathroom. I could have pumped in an office but I felt uncomfortable in someone's office. All the offices belonged to our Project Mangers and that was just weird. So I chose to pump in the bathroom. Only two of us used the bathroom daily because we were the only women. It was cleaned daily by us, so I know it was clean. It would have been nice to have a comfy place though.
It's probably not worth making your displeasure of this known, huh?
Nope...not worth it since I quit pumping nearly a year ago...but ugh! so frustrating (and have I mentioned that I work in HR?).
That makes it even worse.
This.

I don't know if you're planning on a second child, but maybe this change could help you in the future? It does suck that you got a terrible pumping area.
I have a feeling a similar thing will happen around here soon. I was happy to get the use of a room with a locked door, but it was a conference room and sometimes people would go over their alotted time for meetings so I'd have to sit there and wait for them to finish. Other times the office manager would come ask if I could change my time from 10 to either 8:30 or 1, or something ridiculous like that. I'd end up pumping in the bathroom sometimes. Right now the dean's wife (who also works here) is pregnant, and I'm sure if similar things happen to her it will NOT go over well. She's really quiet and won't complain, but the dean absolutely will make a fuss.
I am hoping to have a second child, so hopefully any policy changes will help me out eventually.
