feeding trouble with a 10 m old!! SOS

yes i know he is teething, but i just dont know what to do anymore.

baby used to love cereal, fruits and veggies, anything mashed or yogurt was good, not he refuses EVERYTHING!!!! opens mouth for one small taste and then turns head away and cries! i ve tried in pieces and spoon feeding, letting him pick up pieces of foods.. different textures, different room temperatures, tricking causes more fuss and cries, he lost 1lbs in the past 2 weeks... im totally frustrated, he used to be a great milk drinker, now i have to give little by little... please help :((((

  • when my LOs fuss and don't want to eat or drink I play the horrible ringtones on my cell and dance in my seat act crazy and it ususally distracts them enough to eat LOL I dont want to force feed them but if they really do need something to eat this does the trick for me. Or if someone else is home try having them distract them so you can feed them. good luck, I know how frustrating it can be!

  • Have you checked his mouth for sores?  I wouldn't think that would last 2 weeks, but it wouldn't hurt to check.  I make popsicles for baby when she is going through teething hell.  They have easy handheld containers at walmart for cheap.  I use my breastmilk (or water), plain greek yogurt, and mashed bananas to freeze.  It would be the only thing she would eat.  You could play around with flavors and such.

  • thank you everyone, so far i think that i am guilty of making a mistake of feeding whenever and where ever in the house ... like if baby doesnt eat at a table we et int he stroller later... snacks mostly.. the result, baby is missing eating his yogurts and most of the healthy foods... got a suggestion today to only allow eating while in a high chair, this way baby will learn that if he misses his chance, he would have to wait till next feeding... definitely going to apply this in the future, thought i would share :)

  • My DS is at this stage.  He used to down purees, but now he fusses and clamps his mouth shut.  I think he's tired of me feeding him with a spoon, but when I give him finger food he is baffled by it and coughs up anything that gets in his mouth b/c of the texture.

My solution has been to distract him as much as possible - give him his own spoon, something to play with, some finger food, etc.  He's just eating less.

Also, my DS is a horrible milk drinker.  It takes him about an hour to finish an 8 oz. bottle.  We just take it slow, a little at a time, and take a lot of breaks.  I give him his bottle in the stroller a lot.
