Natural Birth

MH is so practical

Here's a funny story:

So, we are new to being knocked up, and are just starting to explore NB options. I was hoping to deliver at a birth center, but insurance doesn't like that idea. Outside of a hospital, the only way I can get covered is with one local midwife who does exclusively home births, something we hadn't considered before.

In talking with MH about it, his first question (he's very on board with NB) about a home birth is if it will change our property value. "I mean, is it something we have to disclose when we sell, like a murder in the house?"

Seriously, dude? That's the last thing I'm worried about and no, unless things get real crazy and someone punches some drywall.

Re: MH is so practical

  • Ha! My DH was worried about the neighbours. That I would be screaming my head off and they would complain. And he was worried about the mess.

Not much screaming (until the last 5 mins) and no complaints from neighbours. Oh, and our doula, MWs and my sister cleaned everything up.

Funny, I recently met our landlords (we are overseas and renting) and actually didn't want to tell them we might have a home birth. Wondered if it would freak them out.

  • Haha!  I have to say, one of the things that sold me on the home birth is when my neighbor (who used the same midwife I'm using) said that after having the baby, she went to the bathroom.  When she came back into the bedroom, everything had been cleaned up like she'd never even given birth in there.  I'm all about that.

  • Haha! That is so funny! I think you're safe on the home birth front unless someone boards a bus to crazytown and, like you said, starts knocking out dry wall. :)
