No idea how it will fit in our car- we'll probably go to BRU to test them and then buy from somewhere cheaper, heh- but I'm thinking of the Graco MyRide or the Evenflo Triumph. DH prefers the MyRide because it has nicer cupholders, but I need to do more research. Britax has a good safety reputation, but from what I have read the shells are shorter than some other models, so if you have a tall LO they will outgrow it sooner. DS is very long right now (compared to his weight at least) so we will probably not go with Britax. I really want a Diono Radian, but they are almost 400$ in Canada (where I live) which is way out of our budget.
I hear carseat.org recommended all the time to ask about carseat questions, so I will probably find my way over there at some point doing research.
Its funny you posted this...I just upgraded both my infant car seat and stroller.
I'm not sure how this would fit in your car, but I did a lot of research and ended up getting the britax marathon. Its a little on the bigger side, but so cushy and comfortable for LO..Britax makes other designs that are smaller than the marathon, but i do love the ease, safety and comfort that it provides for LO.
I have a Britax Marathon too, and we've used it from day one. DS is very comfortable in it, and I like some of its safety features which you don't find in many other brands (like a rear-facing tether). It is a big, heavy seat, however, and it does take up a fair amount of room in my Honda Accord. I have it installed rear-passenger side, and we have to keep the passenger seat upright and a little bit more forward than we did pre-baby. But both my husband (5'10") and I (5'4") can sit in the passenger seat - just can't stretch out or lean back.
One of the main complaints about Britax seats is the shells are a bit short, so a child can outgrow the seat by height much sooner than one might think based on the high weight limit of the seat. Since DH and I are both average height but were short babies (and DS is in the 10th percentile for height), I'm not terribly worried about it.
I have a Britax Boulevard 70 in my car(Forrester) for DD, my husband has the Evenflo Symphony(4 runner, although my friend has one in his sedan). Both are good.My mom and MIL have the evenflo triumph; make sure to test that one in your car.It is great in my mom?s but the turn handle is a real pain in my MIL?s because of the shape of her seats. DD is still rear facing at 2.5, although she is close to outgrowing the symphony rear facing. DD was in her infant seat for 15 months (she was a winter baby).I remember when she was little all of the moms rushed to move their LOs my advice wait at least until after winter if you live somewhere cold, unless your child has outgrown the infant seat.It is much easier to carry a car seat in the house than to put the child in a car seat in the freezing cold when they can?t wear a coat in the seat.Basically you are carrying the baby outside in a coat and then taking the coat off before putting the baby in the seat all while trying not to freeze yourself.

We have a my ride for ds that dd will eventually use. It has a tall shell, which is great for extended RFing. DS is still RFing in it and is a 1/4 in shy from 40 in.

Which one did you / will you get? I have a mid-size sedan and want something that is not too big.
I drive a small Saturn sedan and we decided on the Graco My Ride 65. It's a great car seat and provides better head support than the infant car seat we use.
Re: convertible car seat recs
we have 3, one for my car one for SO's car and one for my sister who watches him during the day.

My favorite is the safety 1st air 65. To me it seems the safest.
