First birthday -- no party?

Anyone NOT having a party for their LO's first birthday? I'm feeling guilty about even considering it, but also know that it would be very small (our family is all far away) and more for the pictures and the fact that I feel like we SHOULD. Obviously she won't remember it...any ideas on other special things to do instead? We'd still do a cake and gifts with our immediate family, and make it a "special" day.

A small thing with family, cake, and gifts IS a party. That's all we're doing, just with some extended family as well. We're not doing games, clowns, or anything like that.

Ditto previous posters that said that IS a party! Cake, gifts and family members?! Sounds like the perfect first birthday party to me!

We're just having dinner with my mom and my MIL. We were supposed to be moved into our new house by now but since that's on hold we don't have the space to have more than a couple people for dinner.

We didn't do much for DD's first.  A friend was having a BBQ that day.  We brought cupcakes to the BBQ and sang happy birthday.  It was great! We saw friends and she got to play with food.  Everyone was happy. I'm waiting until she wants a party to throw her a big one.

we aren't having much of a party, I would love to but with their nap schedules etc I just think it would be too much this year, I plan to go all out next year though. this year its just immediate family (very small) and  4 or 5 closest friends. I wouldnt stress over no party, having some pix of LO with cake eating is all that anyone will care to see down the road anyhow lol

We are throwing our son's party this weekend and I wasn't gonna do games and all that at first until I thought there will be other kids there and they will need to be occupied with something to do! LOL! We are planning to do a "Smash Cake" but will have a regular cake for everyone to eat and I produced a video composed of over 200 iphone videos we took over the course of his first year and I will play it for party attendees at the party. Im sure our son could care less about the video now but later on when hes older he'll be glad to have his own little movie he can watch over and over! LOL!

We live away from family and had wanted just a small get together with the grandparents (they're the only ones that would come out) and do pictures with them, dinner and a samsh cake...well, DH was asked to be in a wedding the weekend following LO's birthday back home. so now we can't get away from it.  So now it's a huge ordeal...I'll be honest I'm having fun planning it, but feel like I've been hemorrhaging money for the past two months...and we still have one to go! :|

We aren't planning a big party either. I think we've just decided family - which means just us 3 and g-ma & g-pa. But who knows, I might change my mind :-)

We are doing cake and gifts with my in-laws and one set of best friends.  That will be it.  I think first birthday parties are more for the parents than the kids, which is fine, but not what I want to do this year.  His birthday is Dec 21st.  I think I am going to be busy enough that time of year, so I am going to go small this year, since it may be the last year I can.
