Episiotomy question?

For those of you who had episiotomies has your sex life been back to normal? I'm asking because its been now 3 months and 3 weeks and sex is still painful (very tender). When did it get better for you?

Re: Episiotomy question?

  • 16 weeks later and it still hurts... I wonder if it will ever be the way it used to.

  • I didn't have an epis, but I did tear. Sex is still uncomfortable for me sometimes my tear wasn't even that bad.

I'm not really sure how long it will take to feel normal again..if I ever do. Sorry, this is probably no help...but that's just my experience. :/

  • Second degree tear here. We have to go slow and use lots of lube, but it feels pretty good. Different, but good. I hope it gets even better once I wean and my hormones are back to normal.
  • I had a 4th degree...the first couple of times were definitely hard. Now it's somewhat back to normal. The beginning hurts a little still, we just go slow at first and it works out just fine. Lots of lube helps too

    Good luck!

  • I only had small bilateral tears and it still feels uncomfortable at the beginning of sex, but it goes away after a bit. I second the lube!

  • With DD1 I tore and had an episiotomy. I ended up needing surgery about 5 months pp because of the pain. Turns out I had extra scar tissue. It took forever to be able to have sex comfortably.

I was extremely lucky that I didn't tear or need to be cut with DD2. Infact, the day I had my 6 week pp check up I came home that night and had sexy time with DH.

Just go really slow and use A LOT of lube. Especially if you are bf'ing as that tends to dry things up.

  • Mine was tender for sometime, but I have to say the past 3 weeks it hasnt seemed to bother me anymore.

  • I had a 2nd degree tear and everything is a-ok and back to normal.  No discomfort.

  • I did not have an episiotomy, but I did have 2nd degree tears (both way). I can still feel where the tearing is during sex but it has gotten better with time. Lube is your friend!
