birth control question?

ok i got the IUD put in back in march the copper one and i know the side effects said heavy periods which i never had before and really hate now but are the periods suppose to get closer together too. some periods last longer then my "normal" length. its normally 5 days long but some months it was 7-8. i become extra ummm evil on my periods too which is weird because it not suppose to have hormones in it so i don't know if thats because my body is still going through it or what. should i switch i was talking to my husband about the MIrena and he think i will be the devil if i get that lol. so then i was think the shot since i want to gain a little weight anyway lol but I see myself not making it to an appointment and saying surprise we are pregnant again lol. what do you ladies think i should do? I'm already making appointment to get checked out to make sure everything is ok.

    1 lap, 5 IUIs = 4 BFNs and 1 c/p
    2 IVFs, 2 FETs = 1 BFN, 1 c/p, 1 ectopic and finally a sticky BFP in May 2011!

  • It sounds like you know yourself and know that you might have trouble sticking with the shot, for that reason, it sounds like that option should be out. My Mirena was pretty expensive, about $1200 all said and done, so if I already had a different IUD, I don't know if I would pay that much money to (potentially) reduce my period from 7-8 days down to 5 days. Granted, you probably have different insurance coverage, so a Mirena for you may be a different price than a Mirena for me. If I were in your shoes, I think I would keep the IUD that I already had and focus on learning to be more relaxed during my period. I have found that exercising, especially during my period, helps keep my emotions more even during my period.
