Pregnant after 35

Holy heartburn, Batman!

Wow, did that just hit me like a Mack truck! Dang! And here I was worried that maybe something was wrong because I wasn't feeling as nauseous as I had been the past 4 or 5 days!

I can't sleep, despite my exhaustion, because my throat is on fire all the way down to my stomach. I never get heartburn that I can actually feel, so of course I have nothing in the house for it.

Time to start stockpiling Tums...

This is going to be one helluva ride!

  • Oh, the joys of pregnancy.  ;)  Sorry to hear it's hitting you so early...that happened to a friend of mine, she had heartburn for the entirety of her 2 pregnancies.  She made it through with the help of a lot of Tums, and by avoiding spicy foods.  I would definitely call your doctor and ask if there's anything else you can take because often times there is.  For example, my doctor told me it's OK to take some Benadryl if I can't sleep.

  • Unisom is also okay to take if you need to sleep--but you probably want to do something about the heartburn itself as well. Sorry you're getting pummeled so early!

  • Yeah if you find tums doesn't work start using Zantac or pepsid ac. No need to suffer..
  • wintergreen mints will also help with heartburn...

I am dealing with this today.. ugghh.   I have the honor of eating bland boring foods, I got so excited when I found a new box of cheerios in the freezer.   Wrong move.. although they are staying down they have caused horrible heartburn

this weeks foods that work are grilled cheese, cheerios, crackers, and pretzels.  Although I have kicked the pop habit I have been washing these al down with about a half a can of Pepsi. sigh   I like water but there are times I want flavor and lemonade or juice of any kind makes me ill just thinking about them .. :)

  • Thanks, ladies, for the commiserating and the advice!

So far, drinking milk and keeping my meals small but more often seems to be doing the trick. But I may be grabbing some Tums before my shift this weekend-- 12 hours without time for regular meal breaks will most likely require intervention!

  • I literally feel your pain!  Zantac 150 mg twice a day and Tums did the trick for me for both pregnancies.  Hope you feel better, heartburn is no fun!

  • I am a board slacker and slow on the draw, but wanted to say that I am SO HAPPY to see you here D&W! Congrats on your peewee :) I will be keeping an eye on you and hoping for all good things for you.

I hear you on the Tums- I've started popping them like candy. At nite after dinner seems to be the worst. I usually have 4 tums for dessert. :)

  • Late reply, but I've been offline since last Tuesday....  Tums are your friend... drink a little bit of milk to calm it down and sleep on your left side.  That saved me hours of laying there in pain.  It was amazing.... bad heartburn, lay on the left side and the heartburn will be gone.... seriously!
