Pre-School and Daycare

What do you do with all the school stuff that comes home?

DD#1 is only in school three mornings a week and every.single.day she comes home with more and more papers and crafts.  What do you do with it all?  Looking for creative ideas for showing it off for a little while and then, what do you do?  Do you keep it put away somewhere, do you toss it?  A lot of it is her letters/numbers, coloring, story books, etc.  I have enough stuff collecting around the house with two LO's and now the school stuff...OY.

  • I was JUST thinking the same thing..Honestly I think I'm ganna toss a lot of it and save the really "good" stuff. DD does like 4 paintings a day and then they do a craft and other stuff so her bag is always full. She doesn't seem to care too much about the paintings after she is done with them soI won't feel too bad throwing them away.

  • Anything personal like "when I grow up I want..." or "my favorite..." gets dated and put in a portfolio envelope.

Paintings get saved for wrapping paper or art projects.  they are into cutting out masks for their stuffed animals right now and I have about 30,000 colorful paintings for them to use...

I also use paintings for their thank you cards after birthdays.

Worksheets I use as scrap paper.

Awesome stuff!  Thanks.  Love the wrapping paper idea - I always use brown wrapping paper for them to color.  I like your idea!

  • I plan to take pictures of DD's work and put it into a shutterfly-type photo book.

I send some pics to her grandparents/birthmom.

I save certain things for her scrapbooks.

I also use her art for thank you cards.

  • I've been dealing with school papers for a few years with my 7yr old and this year it started with DD..I think I finally have a good system, I throw away 98% of non craft projects and keep a few projects and then scan in the projects that I want to have memories of and then toss. I have made a book of projects and schoolwork for my son the last two years and that is what I plan to do with dd as well.
  • I have been loving the ArtKive app on my iphone.  They are getting ready to release a droid version too.  You take a photo of the artwork, then tie it to the appropriate child (if you have more than one) and can add a date, title and additional details.  You can then choose to save or share with family, grandparents, etc.  Then you can make the art into books, coffee mugs, etc.  And the app is free.

Now I don't feel guilty when I throw stuff away!  Although I do keep things with handprints, gifts for mother's day, etc.

    The web address is www.artkiveapp.com.

I like these ideas too - I have heard of the shutterfly thing as well.  I think you can scan stuff using the printer and save it.  Ahhh...so glad I asked.  These are things that I have heard of in the past and just don't remember them when I need to. LOL

Going to check out the iPhone app.  Sounds cool.

This-when she's not looking. The cute stuff will get displayed on the fridge.

  • Well, I have been going through this for sometime now so I decided to keep a box by the door to store her things in. I also put a twine line in her room to display her art and I use clothes pins to hold it up. I just took down most of it to make room for pre-k drawings.

  • We have a hanging thing with clips in her room where she hangs some of the artwork, some of it hangs on the fridge for awhile, I have a file folder where I keep the pieces that mean the most to us.

DD loves to write/draw so she has a huge stack of papers that she carries around, plays with, colors on more, etc.

Once they get crinkled, torn, or she gets too many, I slide them into the recycle bucket when she's in bed. :)

  • I toss most of it, some of the art stuff I save and use as cards for family and friends (some stuff I just cut up and use that way so its just pieces getting used).  There are some things that I save in a box for the girls to have when they are older and see what they were doing but that stuff is rare.  Some stuff I have taken pictures of and then jsut save the picture and use it in our annual family photbook that I make of the year.

  • Toss most of it.  I need to get a box to put stuff in, but I don't need 100 pieces of paper with a few scribbles on it (ds isn't a crafty person).
