Payton vs Peyton

Re: Payton vs Peyton

  • Payton. Peyton takes me straight to Manning, who is not feminine at all.

  • I actually prefer Peyton, don't ask me why, but Payton just looks odd to me.

  • One of my friends has an almost-one-year-old girl named Peyton. I don't like the name at all for a girl, but I do prefer the spelling Peyton. Payton doesn't even look like a name to me.

Which spelling do you prefer for a girl?

Neither, sorry. After working in schools and a children's museum in Indianapolis for years, it seems every 5th kid here is named Peyton/Payton. I don't care for it.

If you really like it, though, I guess Payton is the more feminine spelling. But I really strongly dislike this name for a girl.

  • This is not a for sure name, just one that was on my list. I just wanted to see the prefered spelling since I can't seem to make up my mind on how to spell a few names I like.
  • If I had to choose, it would be Peyton. I have no real reason to choose one over the other besides the fact I am a One Tree Hill fan and Peyton was one of the characters.

  • Peyton, that's the correct spelling.  I think of Peyton (girl) from One Tree Hill.

  • Both spellings remind me of football players:  Peyton Manning and (this is going to date me) Walter Payton.  Both scream, shout, and stomp boy to me.   I don't know how either spelling became a girl name, but then the whole reasoning behind the trend of boys' names for girls thoroughly escapes me.

    This.

    Payton looks like a misspelling.
