Flying with lo in a week!

I'm taking DD on a flight by myself and have been reading up on tips.  I have a layover (WHY?!) and both flights are pretty short.  I'm planning on nursing her on the way up and on the way down because that's when it's supposed to hurt her ears.  She won't take a paci or a bottle so I'm the only option :)

I called the airline to make sure the stroller and car seat wouldn't count as checked bags.  I plan on pushing her through the airport and then checking those items at the gate unless there's an empty seat next to me.  In that scenario, I'll ask to bring my car seat on board.

I'm forgoing my usual diaper bag and opting for a backpack to carry our stuff in.  That way I won't have a big bag dangling down and getting caught on things as I run to catch my next flight.

My sweet DH is driving me to the airport and helping me check my bags even though it's a workday and we live 45 mins from the airport.  I didn't protest because that sounds a little tough for me to do on my own!

Ladies who have flown with LO - any tips???  Anything I need to pack in my carry-on?

  • Sounds like you have pretty much have everything covered. I would be sure to pack a few more diapers than you need and some extra clothes for LO just in case your layover is longer than anticipated. And the backpack is a GREAT idea.

If you have room in your carry on, I'd bring an extra shirt for you.

Great idea.  Can you tell I'm nervous?  I research the heck out of things when I'm nervous :)

  • I flew with DD when she was 6 weeks old and I highly recommend bringing a standard neck pillow to put on your lap for baby to sleep on.  It saves your arms from holding them during the flight.

Good luck!  They say it's waaay easier to fly with them as infants than as toddlers.
