shared room

I am expecting in May 2013 but my son will be 2 years old...by the time the baby is 4/5 months old my son will be 2 1/2 I am thinking about putting them in a room together... my only concern is that my toddler will wake up before the baby in the mornings and start to play and maybe throw things in the crib...not meaning to hurt the baby but just because he is a toddler...any tips on room sharing and how to go about it in a safe way? Any tips?He will be in a toddler bed by then... hopefully!

Re: shared room

  • No advice but DS 2 1/2 and DD will be sharing a room, so I am curious to hear responses. We will move her in there when she is STTN so hopefully around 4/5 months like you. I just want to hear responses.

  • You will be amazed at how much your son will grow up in the next year. I wouldn't worry too much about him throwing things in the crib. DS has a much better concept of right and wrong even in the past couple months. Try to get him used to the toddler bed before baby comes though. If you are really worried, I would put any toys that may hurt the baby somewhere else.. if not and if by chance he does throw toys in the crib, maybe give him a warning then take them away. He will learn not to do it fast.

Mine will be sharing a room also.. I am mostly worried about fitting all of their clothes and stuff in their room.

  • We plan for both DSs to share, but not till DS2 is potty trained. Even once DS2 is sleeping through the night, their sleep schedules will be too different to share a room for a couple of years. I'd rather have the baby in my room than to have them share that early on.

  • Both my mom and my MIL said they had their toddler share a room with a baby and I plan on doing the same thing. We plan on moving all the toys to the playroom also, so if the toddler does wake up there won't be much noise he could make and I would hear him on the monitor.
