Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Baby Virus

Hi Ladies, my son is 9 1/2 months and for the past 6 days has had diarreha about 4 times a day. We brought him to the pedi but he said that it is a virus that has to run its course and could take at least a week to get better. The pedi changed him to similac sensitive formula while he is sick and said we could go back once his poops are more solid.

I just wanted to see if any other babies have had a similar experience and if you found anything helped with the dirahea? He has no other symptoms and otherwise seems pretty happy. We have been giving apple saucebananas, rice cereal, toast. Nothing seems to make it better. We also have been giving him baby probotics that the pedi recommended.

TIA!

  • Sorry lo is sick. At that age, you could try the BRAT diet.  bananas, rice, applesauce and plain toast.

  • DD did this.  She literally had the loose stools like that for 2 weeks.  We didn't really change her diet at all because it wasn't bothering her.  We did have the poop tested though because they were worried it could have been something that needed treated.  It wasn't.  Sorry lo isn't feeling well, it sucks.

  • We are in the same situation and nothing is helping, including the brat diet. Our pediatrician warned us about the bug before she got it, as it was and still is keeping the office packed. Now DD's entire daycare class has it.

  • Thanks everyone! Glad to know I am not alone on this!

  • My nine month old has this too. After 6 days his poop is getting back to normal. The only side effect that really bothered him was that the diarrhea gave him a horrible diaper rash. He would scream when i wiped his poor little butt. I found a recipe online to mix athletes foot creme, hydrocortisone and anti bacterial ointment together. I slathered it on after every diaper change and the rash was almost gone in 24 hrs. I highly recommend it.
  • My 10.5 month old is on day 12 of this! :( Diarrhea, but no other symptoms. We tried the BRAT diet, but it didn't improve. Doctor told us it has to run its course, and we've started the probiotics as well. It doesn't seem to bother him in the least, which I'm happy about, of course, but the day care policy is 3 loose poops and he has to go home. This has only happened once so far, but I'm really hoping this virus is on its way out?
