When I was a few weeks pregnant I posted on the 2nd Trimester board asking if the Shettles method was true for those woman or not. (To have a girl you have sex a few days before you ovulate, to have a boy have it when you ovulate)
It was interesting because most of the woman who replied said it was true for them.
We were not trying this method, (And I never believed it would work) but I do know that based on this method, we should be having a boy, but are having a girl. So I was just interested in seeing these results.
So was this method true for you?
Re: Shettles method
i haven't read about this method but when a friend of mine was trying to get pg and she was having a lot of trouble (...long story - turns out she had a brain tumour!) the Dr said that female sperm is more resilient than male sperm which allows them to last longer and stand up to fertility issues. this is usually the case when women have trouble conceiving, they are more likely to have girls. so i'm guessing this works with the theory of having sex a few days before ovulation because then the female sperm would last long enough to fertilize the egg once if finally happens...
and lets be honest boys don't have that kind of patience!!
We were not trying, but I know when we did the deed and when I Oed (5 days later, which was two days earlier than it should have been) so we should most definitely be having a girl. We're having a boy.
We did this with every cycle when trying for the boys - I went through LH strips like candy. I had very irregular cycles with a lot of failed ovulation - took a year of trying... but we did our best to plan around those surges. In May, we had a huuuuuge spike (3 full days of positive LH strips), and did the baby dance at the end of day 1 through the rest of the week
We ended up with twin boys
so while it might have just been coincidence, I'd do the exact same thing if we were doing it over. I never did LH monitoring with my girls, but I was practicing calendar-planning with them and never had sex between days 12 and bleed - so they were more likely lurking survivor-sperms by the time I ovulated, rather than speeder-sperms.
Right ovary removed 09.04.2012 via vertical laparotomy
Essure implant placed on remaining tube 06.13.2013; successful followup scan 09.30.2013
It was true for us!
We tried it this time to sway towards girl. We aren't finding out though, so we will see if it made any difference, lol.
I charted and nailed my exact O date with both boys, so techincally it worked with them, but who knows!

I wasn't trying this method, I just wanted a baby. But I will never know which day/sperm was the one to reach the egg, because we DTD 2 days before O, and the day of O. So it could be either day.
ETA: I don't know what I'm having yet.
We aren't finding out until delivery with this one. I wasn't charting but believe sex was either on O day or day before.
