Pregnant after a Loss

Cervix feels soft and open.

I'm not sure whether to be concerned or not and the Internet has conflicting info... surprise, surprise. I figured someone here might have a better answer. So anyway, last night I noticed my cervix feels soft and open. Sort of like during O for those who tracked that sort of thing. Maybe slightly more open feeling than that, though. Of course now I have pgal brain about it.

I have my doctor appointment on Friday and was planning to ask then, unless you think it warrants an urgent call. FWIW, this morning it didn't seem quite as open, but still moreso than usual, I think. Then again, I hadn't been checking my cervix during pregnancy until last night, so I'm just comparing it to pre pregnancy. Anyone else experience this? For those on mobile who can't see my ticker, I'm about 8w1d.

Re: Cervix feels soft and open.

  • I believe that there is a point in the beginning of pregnancy where the cervix softens.  I know mine felt soft at about the time you're at, because I could tell when I inserted prometrium softgels.  I remember looking it up and finding that it was normal

I found this article, not sure whether the source is reputable, but it at least confirms what I know I found before.

  • I'd probably wait and discuss at your appointment.  Plus, I would think checking your cervix might do more harm than good - you could irritate it, it could come in contact with bacteria, etc.

  • I've noticed that mine is a little bit on the soft/open side the last few days I've inserted my progesterone. The first day I noticed it I was a little worried, but just decided to check it the next day and see what happens. The next day it was exactly the same, as was the day after that. Plus, I told myself that if it truly was "opening", I would have killer cramps, which I don't.

I think it's completely normal. Just ask them to check you or measure it via ultrasound on Friday. I'm sure all is well.

  • Yep, I checked mine once during pg.  It was soft and open.  It freaked me out.  I promised myself to not check again.  There is a lot of complicated hormonal changes going on.  And it makes sense to me that if an OPK can test positive with pg, then it makes sense that my body might send me O signals when I'm pg. Kinda contorted, I know.  Just stop that, that's all.
