I recently started cloth diapering my daughter this week. Things have been going great so far. I'm using tiny bubbles detergent, and am still up in the air if I like it or not. I washed the diapers last night (cold rinse, no detergent, hot wash half scoop detergent with extra rinse) Started to take them out, they were visably clean, but some still kind of smelled of poo, so I put them back in for another repeat washing session.
Ok, here are my two problems:
Took my kiddos to my in-laws today, MIL rushed me out and wouldn't let me explain about diapers because she "already knows". Oh, Ok. Got there to pick them up, baby girl has raw rash. Very tender to the touch, MIL tells me she used A&D.
So, is it possible baby girl's rash is from too much detergent? She never gets rashes, to this is random, and the only thing I can think of, even though I only used half a scoop. I have her in a sposie tonight so I can wash all of her diapers to try and correct this. Also, what do I do about the A&D diaper? Do I need to strip it? Strip all the diapers?
Thanks, and sorry it got long.
Re: I need help.
I am by no means a CD expert.. but I read the boards quite a bit, so hopefully I am not incorrect. That being said...
I think that the rash could definitely be due to the detergent, but I think that it could also have been caused by sitting in a wet diaper for too long. The ammonia in urine can cause a burn, I think. I don't know about Tiny Bubbles detergent, but to be on the safe side, I would probably run all the diapers through the wash once more, but without detergent, just to get any detergent residue out.
I think that you need to strip the A&D diaper.
At this point it could be anything - MIL not changing the diapers enough. Teething (wicked rashes started for us about as old as your daughter is due to teething). She could be irritated by the microsuede of the diapers if you're using BGs or other pockets.
Don't just jump to one conclusion.
Scrubbed the diaper, seemed to come out all right. I dropped the kids off at 11 yesterday, when I got over there at 8:30 after work, she was on her third diaper of the day. She had one on, and there were 2 in the wet bag, one of them being the one I had dropped her off in.
Holy cow, I'm only using about a 1/2 of a scoop. And I thought I was using too much.
I'm using FB OS pockets most of the time. When I do use prefolds, I use one of the FB inserts underneath the prefold. That isn't often because I only have 1 cover.
Your MIL is not changing your DD often enough! She should be changed every 3 hours at the most. If she's getting rashy then she should be changed every 2 hours.
To repeat what a pp mentioned, you need to add more detergent. Always follow the manufacturers directions and then adjust from there if you have an issue. If you are using a HE machine then you should be using one full scoop. We have a top loader regular machine so I use two full scoops.

She just had another tooth pop in, but this is her 7th.
If its her being irritated by the microsuede, what do I do about that? She had been in cloth diapers nonstop since wednesday of last week, and had no redness or anything until Sunday with MIL.
If she didn't have any redness or issues with the microsuede until she was with your MIL then it's probably not the diapers themselves, and more being in a wet diaper too long.

Can't thank you ladies enough for your responses. I'm sure this won't be the last issue I have! Next time MIL watches the kids, I'll make sure to not let her rush me out and tell her to change the poor girl more often.
DD was definitely in a wet diaper way too long.
DD gets a rash if she is in a diaper for more than 2 hours. So, if it was for over 9 hours, she should have gone through a minimum of 4 diapers if there are rash issues, probably more like 5.

Guess I said it wrong, MIL changed her twice in that time frame. She was there for 9 hours, had a diaper on when I got there, and had two dirty ones in the wet bag.
