Inconsistent contractions

Started having mild non painful contractions on Friday afternoon that fizzled and stopped after about 6 hours. They started back up yesterday around 7 am and haven't stopped but they are still 2045 min apart and not painful.

I still haven't lost my MP and at my last appt I was only 1 cm and 20 effaced though the baby is really low. Anyone else have this? It's very discouraging that it's not progressing : family is in town and they were all getting excited that he was going to come while they were visiting. Not looking that way now though

Re: Inconsistent contractions

  • I feel your pain, hang in there!

I have been having timeable ones as well - this morning they were consistently 8 minutes apart for a few hours, but not painful.

At my last appt I asked my midwife when SHE tells people to call, and she said that they really do need to be painful (i.e. the old "you can't talk through them" rule of thumb).

GL! Today could still be the day :) With my DS, they came on with never having felt them before, and no warning.

I wish I had a good suggestion for you for something to take your mind off of it - I am going crazy! On Friday I was 4cm 90% effaced, so while I know that doesn't mean anything, I do worry that things could happen really fast when it DOES start, so I am totally overanalyzing every little feeling. Hating my ute right now. Let's just do this already!

  • I'm not sure how far along you are, but I'm due Thursday and having similar contractions. I've been 5cm and like 80 to 90 percent for 10 days AND losing my MP in massive chunks for 5 days. The really only sign of labor is very painful and consistent contractions or your water breaking. This is baby 3 for me and my water breaking initiated labor for me with the previous two, pre term, so this is totally uncharted territory for me too. It's exhausting and annoying, but like ny DH says, she's eventually going to come out. This can't last forever! Good luck!!!

  • I'm due today actually but this is my first so I know it can take a while. This is just not what I expected what ever is?

  • I was going to post this exact same thing.  I am so frustrated.  Last Thursday, was the same thing...1cm and 20%.  I have been losing mucus (just the yellowish kind) for weeks now.  Last night, I lost a big brownish chunk (yummy).  After that, I was having mild/medium contractions every 13 minutes for the entire night.  I was actually able to sleep through them from 2am - 6am, but had a dream that I was having them still, so I assume I still was.  Woke up this morning, and they are now mild again (more like the normal BH) and no longer timeable.  I just went for about a mile and a half walk, hoping it would kick them up again.  I am just totally depressed.  I really thought last night was it.  What a total crusher.  Hang in there.  I am right there with you.

  • My son is 9 days old. When I went into labor my contractions weren't consistent and the nurse at my dr office gave me an attitude when I called. She told me that they would prefer I wait til they were 511. They were kind of all over the place, 4 min apart, 9 min apart.. I finally just told the woman I was concerned and really thought I needed to see the doc. She told me to come in, they checked me and by that time the contractions were extremely painful but still not super consistent. I was 5 cm dilated and 100 effaced. They rushed me to ld and by that time they were consistently 2 min apart. This all happened in a matter of 2 hours. So, sometimes the 511 rule doesn't work.. If you feel the "maybe this is it?" Feeling, it probably is!

  • I feel the same way. They were off and on all night last night, finally aronud 12:30am I took a hot shower hoping to ease some of the back pain and then when I went to lay down they stopped completely and I was able to get some sleep.

Woke up this morning to just baby moving around like crazy. Got up and started making breakfast and cleaning the kitche and they are back again. They follow no sort of pattern and aren't "stop me in my tracks" painful so I'm not really sure what to do. I was only 1cm dilated on Thursday.

Hopefully soon for all of us, hopefully soon!
