I was at a party tonight with my two best friends, their kids and Q. My one friend's daughter is ten months and about as advanced in movement as Q (pulling up, cruising, fast crawling). She was cruising around a room full of people while i was holding Q. My friend wandered out the room, i was focused on Q. I heard a odd noise and turned to find M with her feet in the air, head first in a cooler full of ice water. She was flailing, I screamed "Get the baby" and even the women standing next to her just kinda stared at M.

I put down Q and got her and she was really shaken up but totally fine. She cried and spit up and then forgot all about it. My friend felt horrible. I took Q outside and cried.

So even though our LO are getting so mobile and independent, there are still so many dangers out there for them. Don't ever trust a room full of people to watch your kid without specifically asking someone and our big boys and girls can still down in a small amount of water. Buckets and coolers are especially dangerous because they can't move their arms to push themselves out.

And thank God tonight that M is okay and your LOs are all safe and sound. It only takes a minute.

sorry if this sounds preachy. I cannot emphasis how scary it was seeing those little legs flailing in the air.

I don't know if anyone would have noticed in time honestly. Everyone was drinking and socializing and I only looked over because I'm so mommy minded right now. Its so scary to think a baby could drown in a room full of people
