What do you think of the name Patrick with the nn Trick? The Patrick has a lot of sentimental value for us and I really like it, however I HATE the nn Pat for a boy.
I don't really care for the nn Pat either, but I don't think Trick is a good nn either. Could Patrick be a mn? Or maybe their is another nn for Patrick that I can't think of right now...
Don't care for the NN Trick. Reminds me of a name Sarah Palin would name one of her kids or something. I agree with PP that it sounds a bit hokey or forced.

Love Patrick (it is my son's middle name). It needs no nickname. I dislike Pat and I hate Trick.

I agree that Patrick needs no nickname. However, I think Pat is cute and would find it refreshing on a little boy. Trick makes me think Trixie which reminds me of a "bimbo. "
Trick sounds completely forced and I do not care for it at all. I would just go with Patrick, if you really want a nn other than Pat, Rick would be my next choice.

How Irish are you? Could you get away with Paddy? Another idea would be to choose MN carefully and use initials. Something like PJ would be cute! Finallyif you really hate Pat, maybe just ditch the name unless you're up for setting people straight once in awhile.
Just never ever call him Pat, correct friends and family if they do it. However, nicknames come from lots of places and even if you call him Trick, he might choose Pat, he may pick it up from school, etc. If you hate Pat that much, you should probably pick a different FN rather than force a NN.
I've never heard the nn Trick for Patrick...even though it seems like it would be a normal one based on the name. I don't know if I love the nn (I don't like Pat either) but I do love Patrick.

So there's this Canadian show about a succubus on Syfy now (Lost Girl)... her grandfather is this powerful Blood Magic fae, who is played by a little person (he's supposed to be from Ireland and maybe responsible for leprechaun rumors).
Anyway, his name is Trick (which made sense with the whole fae-are-not-to-be-trusted-thing), and it was revealed later that it's short for Patrick.
So, I guess there is precedent for nn-ing a Patrick Trick (which would not have occurred to me before watching the show). I'm not sure that this is an anecdote in favor of the nn on a real boy though.
I actually know of a Patrick nn Trick or Tricky...however he is a freestyle skier and the nn is more derived from that. Outside of that community people call him Patrick. I don't think it is good for an everyday nn, but I am also probably one of the few people on here who likes the nn Pat.
Don't care for the NN Trick. Reminds me of a name Sarah Palin would name one of her kids or something. I agree with PP that it sounds a bit hokey or forced.
Yeah--sorry OP. It is kinda Paliney.
I'm just not a Patrick fan, personally. I've never thought it sounded particularly masculine.
Love Patrick. Hate Trick. Reminds me of something woman of the night do ; ) But in all seriousness I am with everyone. If you don't like the nn maybe change the fn.

I also vote for Patrick with no nickname! Trick seems like the kid in class that's super obnoxious and gets into trouble a lot because the teacher can't stand him (and neither of the other kids). I know that's ridiculous but I just can't imagine a sweet, good little boy named Trick. Maybe as a teenager...
I like Patrick...HATE HATE HATE calling the kid Trick..makes me think of 'turning a trick..." not a pleasent name for a child boy or girl....Why not NN of Rick.....
My brother is named Patrick and was actually called Tricka when he was a kid. It wasn't a "let's call him Tricka" thing, though?just developed naturally. He outgrew it by the time he was school-age, and predominantly goes by Patrick now. Although, there was a brief, awkward, "call me Rick" phase in high school.
I agree with PP. Patrick is a beautiful name on its own, and not really a mouthful. You don't need to create a nn for it. My brother is a Patrick, and except for a brief period in jr high, has never gone by/needed a nickname.

This. Why would a child want Trick as his NN? I would totally judge parents who did this.

Love Patrick. No nickname.
You could also do a MN starting with J for a "P.J." nickname.
Yeah--sorry OP. It is kinda Paliney.
I'm just not a Patrick fan, personally. I've never thought it sounded particularly masculine.
I'm trying to imagine the name Trick on a sweet cuddly baby boy. It's just ... unnatural sounding to me! Circle peg, square hole.
Patrick is a great name and I prefer the nn Paddy if a nn is a must.
exactly what came into my mind...turning a trick
patrick is an awesome name
No, Trick is not good. Another vote for plain Patrick. I've considered Rick or Paddy as a NN if we use Patrick.
Never in a million years would I call my son Trick. It reminds me of Tricky *** (Nixon) or Trick Daddy as PP mentioned.
