My 4 yo DD is sick today with an almost 104 fever. She's been lethargic on the couch all afternoon and was probably close to falling asleep about an hour ago. Her temp was back up over 103 (after being down in the 101s from Tylenol earlier in the day), so I gave her some motrin. She is now bursting with energy to an extreme... like, not acting herself. I'm borderline concerned (hence this post)... I can see that she's basically jumping out of her skin with energy, acting REALLY silly (more than the usual), behaving almost aggressively with her toys. She is chasing her sister around the room as I type... She's never acted like this after motrin before. Anyone have a similar experience????
ETA: Her fever is presently still over 102
Re: Sick child bursting with energy after motrin??
I've never noticed it with my DD, but I have definitely heard that many medicines can cause sleepiness or hyperactivity. If you haven't yet, check the label - it may even list it as a side-effect.
I haven't dealt with a high fever like that yet, so I have no other advice! Hope she calms down and feels better.
We've never dealt with this kind of reaction before... Any idea how long it usually lasts? I had hoped she would've crashed by now.... It's been 2 hrs since the Motrin. Ugh!
