Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

still on bottles???

I am always reading how many have transitioned their LO's off the bottle to sippy around 12 mos. I was curious if anyone else was where we are, still on the bottles. My DS is 14 mos.

Re: still on bottles???

  • DD1 had 3 bottles at 12 months, then we cut one a month until 14 months when we dropped the last one.

DD2 is still getting 1 bottle a day per her pedi's instructions. She's only 7% for weight and we're trying to get her to gain, or at least stay at that percentile, so first thing in the morning she still gets a bottle of whole milk. We had planned to drop it this week, but we'll keep it at least another month or two now.

I think there are probably more people still giving bottles past 12 months than it seems, they just aren't as likely to post about it as the people who are making the transition.

  • Ds was off by that point, but dd was still taking all liquids by a bottle.  I decided at 15 months to drop the bottle for her.  She was not happy, but we hid all the bottles, and she drank less for a few days, and then was totally on sippies.

  • We're still on the bottles at 20 months.

  • Dd is better at sippys but still wants bottles if she is tired or cranky. Pedi wants her off completely by 15 months so we'll see how the next month goes.
  • Still on bottles here. DS has to have his liquids thickened, so I'm not going to worry about the transition until later. The valves in most sippies just don't work with thickened liquids.

  • My DS is 13 1/2 months and we are working on phasing them out but we still always do a morning and night bottle.  I think next week we are taking away the morning bottle.  We are working on it but I'm not stressed or worried over it.

  • Still on bottles(only milk) at 13 months. She will only drink water out of the sippy so far. Once she goes to napping only once a day I will work on dropping a bottle...maybe
  • My LO gets 3 bottles at daycare still but next week we are only sending sippy cups.  No more bottles!  She will prob drink less at first but she'll catch on.  She BFs at home so I'm not worried she'll dehydrate.

  • DD will be 14 months pretty soon and she still takes a bottle at nap time and at bedtime. It's still working for us right now so I'm not really in a hurry to change it. I figure I will in the next few months but she still really likes those two bottles.
  • I BF so I didn't give DD bottles myself, but she had them during the work day.  She turned 1 in February and refused milk from anything other than a bottle.  I decided that I'd let be until summer break (I'm a teacher), and ditch them during that time.  This ended up working out, and she was done with bottles around the 16 month mark.  If I were you, I'd just go at your DD's pace for awhile longer.

  • 17 month old here still gets a bottle of milk before bed.  What's the point of phasing it out since he has a 1 month old brother who drinks from them so he would have to see them daily.  I figure he wil eventually loose interest.
  • My LO is 15 months and we just stopped cold turkey on Friday. He was getting an AM, nap, and bedtime bottle. He's having a hard time with it, he throws a tantrum when he wakes up until he gets breakfast, and every time we give him a sippy, when he used to drink from straws and hard spouts with no problem. I've been thinking of trying a different cup, but a lot of them are really similar to bottles so I don't know if I should bother.

  • Eli uses sippy cups all day with water or occasional water-juice . But, when he drinks milk , it is only in bottles. He won't take it any other way. 14 m

  • DD has only one bottle a day, right before bed.  I don't plan to get rid of it anytime soon though, since I love having that cuddle time with her while she drinks the bottle.  She takes sippies through out the day.

  • 17 months. Still doing bottles at naptime and bedtime. Our doctor doesn't care.

  • Glad to see we're not alone!  B is 14 months, and he's in the process of taking sippy cups instead of bottles...he takes sippies fine at daycare all day, but when he is home, he's refused and downright begs for his baba.  Tonight was the first night he's ever used his milk sippy willingly - and that was only because he stayed up a little late and wanted some milk before bedtime.
  • DD is 14.5 months old and still has a bottle for breakfast and dinner; I'm worried she's not eating enough, so I'm still mixing formula & milk to make sure she's getting enough calories.  She is drinking some water and milk from a sippy cup at day care.  Going to check with our pediatrician at 15 month appt and then decide if we need to go cold turkey.  Not looking forward to it!
