I went for my appointment today and found a pamphlet about a research project on whether newborns getting colds their first year has any long term impact on their health. Their first flu season, they'll call every two weeks to check on his general health and they ask you to bring them in for ANY signs of a cold, such as sneezing, runny nose, congestion, etc. Around their first bday, they'll draw blood; second bday, they'll do a questionnaire; third bday, they do a skin allergy test; and fourth bday is just a full physical. They compensate 250 dollars.
I don't see anything they're wanting to do that would harm him and it would be part of research to help children in the future. I just feel kind of guilty, because the big reason I really want to do it is because 250 dollars could be really useful, and I feel like I'm "exploiting" him.
Would you put your child this research trial? What about any research trial in general? How much is worth certain things being done to your child, or what's not worth any amount?

Interesting. I had a bad flu in February. Do you know if they think there is any effect? Or what they think the effects are?
