I had my CNMW appointment yesterday and since I'm about to start my third tri I asked how much RRL tea I should be drinking. I was surprised when she told me that she would prefer it if I waited until 34w. She said that while she doesn't believe it puts women into labor she thinks that if they were to go into premature labor (not related to the tea), it might be harder to stop labor.
I have no history of pre-term labor DD was born at 40w3d, and while I do have braxton hicks sometimes nothing would indicate I am at risk so far this time. I started drinking RRL tea with DD in the third tri and last time a different MW in the same practice told me it was fine. Has anyone heard of this, thoughts?
Re: Another RRL Tea Question
My MW said the same thing. She said that since this is baby #2, that my cervix is already softer than it was the first time around so to just wait intil 34-36 weeks to start drinking it.
I suppose it comes down to how much you trust her advice on such things. I saw an OB with DS1 and he had not studied herbal remedies, so he erred on the side of caution/assumption about how they worked rather than really knowing. Because of that, I didn't put any more stock in his opinions on such things then I would a lay person. In contrast, I saw a CPM with DS2 and she also is an herbalist. She likes all of her patients to drink a quart of RRL tea per day through the whole pregnancy. I felt confident following her advice because utilizing herbs is something she is informed about.
