Lucia? (Loo-see-ya)
i know there was a post about the pronunciation of this name a few months ago, but my concern is something else . . . would you assume, when seeing this name, that the girl is latina? (and i know there is also a scandinavian association with the popularity of st. lucia there.)
but i am curious if:
A) you would assume she's latina? and
would it be weird if she wasn't?
TIA!

-- I would think she might be Italian or Swedish (St Lucia Day).
-- No, it's a beautiful name and isn't necessarily linked to one ethnicity.
A) you would assume she's latina? Based on where I live, yes.
would it be weird if she wasn't? No
I had Lucia on our list for awhile, but decided that the 3 diff pronunciations (Spanish, Italian, Swedish) were too much possible confusion for me. So I reverted to Lucy.
My personal association is my trig teacher, Mr. Lucia (loo-sha). Nice guy. Also the baseball coach. I realize nobody else has that association :P I have to think every time I see it on here about how to actually pronounce it.
I'd assume she's Italian...which could be completely wrong because Italians are rare around here, but it just looks Italian to me. And now that you've told me to think Latino, it doesn't fit for me even when I think about.

I would totally assume she was a Latina. However, I wouldn't think that was weird, I would just be surprised when in walked a white or black or Asian girl. I have an Ingrid in my class that is 100 percent Mexican. I found it surprising, but not weird. Her parents just wanted an American name!

Pronounced Loo See Uh, I would think she was hispanic.
The Italian pronounciation is Loo CHEE Uh
would it be weird if she wasn't? No
Actually, the only Lucia that I know/know of is my step-grandmother (Loo-shu) and she is not Latina or Italian (probably hence the pron.).I think "Lu-chi-a" for some reason and I think Latin
I'm a Spanish teacher and lived in South America so I would assume it was a Latina.
However, I wouldn't think it was weird if she wasn't.
I would use it. I think it's pretty

The character from lost also immediately came to my mind.
If I saw / heard the name Lucia, I would think latina, but wouldn't think it was weird if she wasn't.
My association is with Italy.
I used to date a guy with the sweetest grandmother ever. She had been born in Italy and her name was Lucia.
