I am trying to get info on if my dd qualifies and when rsv season starts. Pedi talked about it briefly during our last apt but said we would discuss it when we came back for our booster flu vaccine next month. But I want to be prepared before we go into that apt. I can' t find any info on when rsv season starts, we are in Ohio, I looked on CDC and I am assuming once they start getting reported cases this year 2012-2013 is when it starts? Since I can only find info on last year. Dd had one shot last year at dc it was the end of April when she was sent home. From what I am reading I do not think she will qualify, but I know insurance has to approve it and you can appeal if nessacery. I want to get this all sorted out before she would receive her first dose. Long story to my question, any moms been through this process? Did you mainly handle it or does the pedi office? Also what would you suggest in my situation?
DD was born at 31w 3d very low birth weight 2lbs 6 oz. No lung issues or heart issues and is a little over 6 months, so 4 adjusted. I am a SAHM and she is our only child, so we can limit her exposure to sick children and adults. I am thinking because she has no lung or heart issues and is over 6 months actual she will not qualify, BUT she was a preemie and very low birth weight, that's where my confusion is. I figured I would ask you ladies before calling the drs office, since some of you may of gone through this and I can be prepared for what they may throw at me! Thanks is advance!
Re: Rsv season and synagis
DS was approved pretty quickly but he is younger than your's not quite 4 mos old. He was 1lb 3 oz at birth, is still on O2 and has mild chronic lung disease as well as some minor heart issues.
Good luck I hope you guys get it. I'm a SAHM too but I'm terrified of what DH might bring home from work.

Thank you ladies for the responses and links! She will not qualify under the guidelines given, so we will just have to be super safe! I am still going to discuss with pedi, even if we try and get denied, it may be worth a shot! (Literally
)
It is worth trying for sure. Even if you only approved for a couple of shots (instead of the full series) that is better than nothing!
