Constipation

I have always had problems with constipation well add the prenatals and its dead stop for a week at a time or more. My Dr prescribed colace (over the counter) and i take them twice daily but it doesn't always produce a bowl movement sometimes just really bad stomach pain through the day and night. anyone else have this problem? did your Dr recommend something less harsh or that works better? Thanks in advance.
PCOS @18 #1-simple :) MET= success #2-Met+clomid 50 (for 3 cycles).   • If you are okay with moderate amounts of caffeine, I would suggest a cup of coffee. It is the only thing that has truly helped me out.

    You could also eat foods full of fiber and increase your water intake.

  • nothing has helped me. colace, fiber, gallons of water a day and i am still in constant pain. its miserable. my  nurse did mention trying mirolax which supposedly causes less cramping.

  • 100oz of water a day keeps things moving for me.  Can you have prune juice?  I've heard that can help.

    I was really in a rut, then tried coffee, and now have a cup every other day!  

  • Have a bowl of some really spicy chili... One of my mom's favorite meals is "Mexican Medley"... that really helped me feel better after almost a week of constipation. Also, I don't eat much fast food... and I had taco bell the other day... that got things moving also!

  • I tried the Metamucil pills but just couldn't bring myself to take 5 pills at a time up to 3x a day.  Just seemed excessive.  I bought the powder yesterday and added it to OJ last night and this morning....no luck yet.
  • Mine recommended Bran cereal. I can't eat cereal, I just don't like it. So I looked up a recipe for wheat bran blueberry muffins and make a batch of those a week. They are yummy and they have helped tons. In my recipe I also use whole wheat flour instead of regular white flour. If you like the taste if the cereal, give that a try. Good luck! I know it sucks being constipated.
  • Just keep in mind that TOO MUCH fiber can have a binding effect.

    My OB okay'd milk of magnesia until things became regular.

  • Coffee and prunes help me.
  • kiwi, apple juice and lots of water.   I start and end my day eating a kiwi and drinking a cup of juice.   I read it online somewhere and it seriously helped me.  I've been having daily BM's since I started that.

  • Thanks ladies! Im doing the water and coffee thing and that usually has worked and i would get stomach pains, but when your PG the stomach pain makes me a complete reck worrying somethings wrong. Im going to give the prune juice and the apple juice and kiwi combo a try. Thanks for the quick replies.

  • Hot tea and yoga help me. I got a prenatal fitness three pack dvd from amazon and it has a yoga DVD with a program specifically for constipation. I did it the other day after no BM for 3 days and I went 45 minutes later. I'm a believer!

     This made me laugh!!! Taco Bell does it every time for me as well, whether I want it to or not!

  • I've had 2 bms in 2 weeks. I've tried increasing water, fiber... eating taco bell, coffee, etc... NOTHING! I've taken a stool softener/laxative tablet once (but I didn't approve it through my Dr. That pill gave me 1 BM but I'm scared to take it again because I don't know if it's safe. I'm going to ask if I can go back on my fish oil tablets because that helped me before.
