Not Kimbo, but it was Discovery of Witches & Shadow Light by Deborah Harkness.

Yes.  It's called the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkenss.  Book 1 is: A Discovery of Witches.  And book 2 is: Shadow of Night.  Book 3 is to be released some time next year!

I hope you read them and love them as much as me!
