daycare activities

What "activities" does your 3-6 month old due at daycare?  I'm looking at different centers and providers when I return to work in January and I feel that there's not much for the little ones to due and am wondering what they should or could be doing.  Thanks.

Re: daycare activities

  • There's artwork, walks outside(depending on the weather), music, story time, belly time, and other floor play.
  • Loading the player...
  • I'd say books, song, outside, exersaucer...they don't do a whole bunch at that age :)
  • Jumperoo, swing, tummy time, lots different of toys, songs, story time
  • swing, tummy time, sitting in those tables that have built in chairs and playing with toys, exersaucers, walks outside
  • Every time I looked at a daycare center, the schedule for babies would be "looking at pictures of babies," "tummy time," etc.  Pretty silly, imo.  Our daycare, they play with toys, exersaucer, read books, sing songs, sit in the bouncy seat, etc.  Pretty much the same stuff we do at home.

  • My DD is almost 8 months old now but the infant program is basically the same for now.  They work with her on whatever skills she is working on, right now its crawling but they work with her on sitting and feeding herself.  They do some art projects - she has finger painted!  They read books, play with different toys, sing songs.  They do tummy time.

  • The activities are pretty basic.  When visiting centers look at how the staff interacts w/the babies.  If they're crying how are they comforted?  Are the babies free to play or are most of them in swings and bouncy chairs?  Are they talking to the babies?

One day I picked up dd and I loved what I saw in her classroom.  DD was laying on the floor looking in the mirror.  One child was next to her in an exersaucer and she was rocking another baby.  She was singing to them.  It was beautiful!

  • uhhh... she didn't do much of anything at that age, even at home. There were no craft projects until 15mo.

DD started at 8.5mo and at that age they would take the babies for rides in the wagon, including taking them outside to watch the big kids play; tummy time; read books to them; and let them play with toys. They played music in the mornings too.
