Taking an 8 month old

Please tell me we are not insane. Our 1st placement is 2 months old and we are now taking an 8 month old. He should be here tonight. I know this is the right decision but part of me thinks we have lost our heads.

Re: Taking an 8 month old

  • Well, things will certainly be interesting! A 8 months, our DD could sit on her own, but not crawl yet. That will make a big difference in the craziness at first... If this new baby can crawl, you will have your hands full, but it is totally possible. Probably not all that different from having twins in a way, since they are only 6 months apart... Even though they will probably be pretty different developmentally.

For an 8-month old, maybe get a standing toy that plays music or something. DD LOVED hers and played with it for ours. This is the one we have (sorry no clicky...iPad):

  • I am kicking myself for doing all the research on 3 -6 yr olds.

I know at 8 months he still is on formula but he can also eat some stuff. What can he eat or wait and check with the Pedi? Any other tips?

  • We didn't start DD on pur?ed foods until 6 months, so at 8 months, she was still just being spoon fed. Many of m friends started earlier, so at 8 months, they were attempting to feed their kids puffs and foods with a bit more chunkiness. Most baby food comes in levels or stages. Get a few of stage 2 and a few of stage 3 to see what he can handle. If he doesn't like the chunks, he'll let you know. DD used to just spit them out!

If you want to make your own food, it is pretty easy. Steam, mash or pur?e in a food processor, serve. Oatmeal with some pur?ed prunes was good for DD for breakfast... and helped with digestion.

Would the social worker know specifically what he can have?  I know some kids might be a little behind what's considered "normal" development and eating markers so he might still be at Stage 1 foods or baby cereal.  The good thing is baby food is fairly inexpensive (well until you have to buy a lot of it lol) so maybe you could get some different kinds and see what he likes?

Good luck I don't think you're crazy, I think you'll be busy but 8 months is such a fun age.  I loved 2 months too but at 8 months there is so much personality.  Have fun, take care of yourself and just take it one moment at a time.  You can do it!!
