August 2011 Moms

Oops.

I sent out the invites for DD1's birthday party.

In total, I am inviting 9 of her little friends (including my 2 nieces). Doesn't sound too much, right? Except I didn't realize that almost all of them have siblings that we need to invite (some are DD2's "friends", plus I want the parents to be there, so I can't really ask them to leave one child behind...). So we're up to 16 kids (including my own). Plus the parents and a few of our very close friends and my parents, so a total 23 adults.

If everyone shows up, we're talking about 39 people, y'all. :S

Holy crap. I swore I would never be THAT parent who throws her small kid a huge party. Guess that's another "I'll never" I can take off my list.

Thank goodness I decided to have the party at a nearby orchard. I can't imagine having all those people in my home (although I am sort of worried of what will happen if it rains).

Re: Oops.

  • We had that issue inviting people for DD's party. Immediate family is 16, Close friends makes the list 35 and a few acquaintances that I already said could come put it up to almost 50!

Luckily it all worked out. Around 30 people showed up and it wasn't too crowded. I blame the fact that I have a large family.

  • Ugh, I hear ya!  I planned immediate family only (us, our parents and siblings and their SOs) for DD's party, which was 14 people.  Awesome.  Then DH wanted to invite his best friend and fiancee.  Fine, but I was also inviting my best friend and her husband and two toddlers.  Ok, 20 people I can handle.  Then DH goes and invites one random uncle, which means we have to invite ALL the aunts and uncles.  I left a couple of first cousins off the guest list and I feel really bad, but we had 40 people, plus a handful of no-shows!  AND it rained, so everyone was stuck inside. At least we were at my parents' house, which is a lot more spacious than ours.

I am already declaring no bday celebration for next year and that we will do a zoo trip instead.  I will probably eat these words, though!

Really hope it doesn't rain for you, an orchard sounds like a fun and nice place for a fall birthday party :)  I'm sure it will turn out fine!

  • I wish 39 was our small number. Confused  When I married my DH I married the freaking town lol! We had a small get together for E's party and that number was 50! DH and I were excited we had such a small party! We did E's aunts and uncles, and E's little "friends".  There were family members who were mad at us for not inviting them. We did a small party!!  UGH!

On a positive note.. HAVE A GREAT TIME!!! IT WILL BE AWESOME!!! Party!!!

  • Thanks ladies. I'm sure it'll be fun, but probably a little crazy. lol. I only have myself to blame, though. I told DH "Here's who we're inviting" and he went along with it.

I'm kind of regretting making the invites for lunch, though. But at least, I said it would be a "festive picnic", so nothing complicated (I feel making sandwiches for 40 people is complicated enough. lol)

Now I can't imagine 50 people being a small party. Wow! How do you manage all the birthdays and holidays? (Mind you it must be fun to attend when you're not the one doing all the organizing :D)
