Blended Families

Just a vent

BM called Monday (was supposed to be her visitation night but she declined it because she hurt her ankle and is on crutches) and asked if they could have SD for a couple of hours last night.  It was her other DD's birthday and they were going to have dinner at a pizza place in our town.  We said sure.  I dropped SD off and BM was going to bring her home when they were done.

She walked SD to the door when she dropped her off and then proceeds to tell us that her youngest child, who was also at the dinner, has Hand Foot and Mouth Disease.  WHY!?!?

SD is always super affectionate with her younger siblings.  I'm sure she was hugging and kissing all over the little one.  And we're just getting over the flu, so weak immune systems all around.

I know this stuff happens, and she might not catch it...  Still finding myself very irritated at the woman who can't just keep her sick kids at home.

Sadly, a majority of the people with kids won't keep them home even though they should.  If not for the child's well being but for others not to get the cold either.  Hand foot and mouth went around our daycare and not everyone got it even though they were exposed to it.  I read an article and remeber it depends on the stages of the bumps/sores if the person can pass onto others.  Maybe they were passed the contagious stage and no one will get.  However, it's still frustrating.

BM implied that her LO still has the fever.  Bleh.

Your little monkey picture is the cutest thing.

  • BM did something similar when her younger DD had hand foot and mouth, I was not a happy camper as I was newly pregnant at the time, and DS was still pretty young.

anyway, I did some research on it, I'm pretty sure the child is contagious BEFORE showing symptoms.  now that she has symptoms/ is diagnosed, she most likely is NOT contagious.  I would still go through your house with a can of lysol, and wash everything in super hot water though to be safe.

  • I would be so annoyed... Why can't BM not be selfish and say "Hey, out LO has HF&MD so we will have to reschedule the dinner - we don't want DD getting sick."
