My son who is 11 months is fine once you put him down for a nap or sleep at night but throughout his sleeping he becomes a very "wild" sleeper. Constantly rolling over onto his stomach or just rolling period. He is never where we leave him when we put him in the crib when he wakes up. Speaking of waking up, he has crying fits out of nowhere in the middle of the night I think he is waking up for similar reasons (he's uncomfortable). Either that or he is having some kind of Nightmare or something.
Over the weekend, he woke up every 2-3 hours for some crazy reason! I thought i was re living his first few months of life! He is teething and has 4 front teeth out of the gum line. I am guessing that could be the culprit.
I am thinking he is hungry when he wakes up in the middle of the night crying so I give him a bottle but he sometimes pushes it away from me or he'll drink from it for about 1 minute or so and then throws the bottle and begins crying again. The only thing I found to work when this happens is to pick him up and hold him tight and rock him in the rocking chair until he falls back asleep again.
Another thing that worked for a few hours anyway was allowing him to sleep in my bed. His mom allows this all the time and he's used to that but I have been against him sleeping with us all along. He actually slept better knowing there was someone else in the bed with him but made my sleep uncomfortable as I kept getting slapped, punched, or kicked (him moving around in his sleep).
I just want to make him as comfortable as I can when he sleeps!
Any tips or suggestions on how to achieve this?
Re: Uncomfortable Sleeper...
DD is going through something very similar, she is waking up between 4 and 4:30 every morning. For a week or so I was sleeping on the couch with her and I realize now that that was a bad idea because now as soon as I go to her she throws her arms in the air and I know that's what she wants. Last night when she woke up I laid her back down and comforted her while she stayed in the crib. It took about 45 minutes to fall asleep but she didn't get hysterical like other times when I tried CIO. I plan on doing it again tonight, if she wakes up. (I'm praying she doesnt!)
I don't know what you can do for comfort, he probably won't like being swaddled
Good luck!
Teething could definately be the culprit...are you giving him anything for the pain? I usually give DD advil before bed when she's teething otherwise she's up and down all night! I don't give it through the day because I figure when up during the day she can chew on teethers, etc. and I can handle the fussiness better than when I'm trying to sleep at night too
The advil at night definately helps her sleep though.
Also, when he's having the middle of the night crying fits are you sure he's actually awake before you go in and pick him up? Are you going in as soon as the crying starts or do you give it a few minutes? DD tosses and turns all the through the night too and sometimes she will start crying in the middle of the night but usually it's not a full blown cry...I realized after reading two sleep training books that she wasn't fully waking up-just dreaming or going into a different sleep phase...I usually won't go in unless she's standing/sitting up in the crib and crying or if she's still laying there but the crying goes on for a few minutes...she usually will cry a bit and then just kinda drift back off to sleep. HTH! GL!
Crossing our fingers as he hits one year old his digestive track will be more developed and gas won't bug him as much.
