if they had already been used by a particularly high profile celebrity? Choice has nothing in the slightest to do with this person, except that she and I apparently have annoyingly similar taste.
(And I'd appreciate it if no one wrote specific guesses here even though it's probably sort of obvious. Given Jewish superstition, I don't like to talk specific names publicly until the baby arrives safely.)

I totally agree with SK. I say if you (and DH) love the name, go for it!
If it helps you any, I had to google whose kids have M's name so I really don't think the connection is all that strong, at least to me. I agree with SK that the females are a bit more in the spotlight so I don't think the connection would be an overly obvious one.
Also, hopefully in the coming years these celebs and kids will kind of leave the spotlight and in 5-10 years I doubt anyone would ever make the connection. In the end, these are your children and you get to name them whatever you want!
Someone's getting a little brother!
Thanks ladies. I'm hoping they'll be out of the spotlight - at least as a set - in the next 5 or 10 years. It's not like they're known personalities themselves. Or like they have anything negative associated with them. I'd just be annoyed if people assumed I'd mooched on someone else's creativity. But the more I read up the more I realize that these particular names are often heard together - it's not like she's the only other person that has them on her favorite names list.

They have so many kids that who really even remembers their names I agree with SK in that girls in the group(one in particular) are more well known that the boys.
If you guys like the name, use it
Lol - Mary Kate and Ashley is rough. That's more or less the other extreme in my head - a set of twins famous in their own right who grew up to have their own tabloid presence. Who knows what the future holds - but I'd be pretty shocked if these particular kids ended up in the public spotlight. (At least it doesn't seem any more likely than anyone else having their own show these days.) It's a good solid family and the kids seem cool. I think more than anything I'd be irritated if someone assumed I wasn't coming up with my own names just because our choices might be the same.
FWIW, there are a few other frontrunner names. I'm just on and off about whether I need to eliminate a couple of our tops because freaking AJ "stole" them.

Eh, I'm not sure. I would only avoid them if it really bothered *me*. If every time you hear the names together and you think about it or are afraid people will always ask about it, then go for it.
Those kids may or may not be famous in their own right in 10 years, so that's not something to worry about.
So no I would not write it off because of that I don't think.
For the last few days one of "those" names was at the top of my list. Today, I'm back off that horse again. Who knows where we'll end up.
I swear - this naming business is so much harder the second time around. We had M's name chosen when I was like 6 weeks along. Obviously not going that way this time.
