I've heard about how you're supposed to stay away from animal feces and not really sure if that applies to all animals or what the risk of "exposure" to feces might be. Are there any other risks associated with contact with the animals themselves? It's not a petting zoo, but there may contact with the birds in the bird house...?
FWIW, 1st-trimester-specific considerations don't apply. I'm into my 7th month.

Are you planning on sticking your face directly into a steaming pile of lion crap? Giraffe poop? Bear feces?
Yes, yes, and yes. What else do people do at the zoo, Wee?

Thanks for the thoughts. I'll be volunteering for a Halloween event "behind the scenes" and nervous about the extra exposure.
But in terms of the "Poop fight!" event where everyone dresses up like monkeys and throws feces at each other - that's out?
Haha yes, avoid that one. In all seriousness though avoid the pigs. Swine flu is going around I was advised to stay away from them.
