Is this a trendy or classic boy name? Do you think it would be mispronounced often? We are considering it if baby #2 is a boy. DS is William (Will). Do you like Will and Rhys as a sibset? His full name would most likely be Rhys Michael Mc_____y. Michael is a family name. Thoughts?
Re: Rhys
I think it's a name that's rising in popularity and becoming trendy. Obviously it's been around for a while (Rhys Ifans, from Notting Hill and Harry Potter fame comes to mind), but I've seen it mentioned on this board a ton.
I also think that the child will grow up frustrated with pronunciation issues, unless he lives in the UK since it's a Welsh name.

I like it! It's definitely not trendy, which is good, and I think it sounds good with both Will and Michael.
As much as when you first glance at it you're not sure how to pronounce it, I think it's pretty easy to sound out with a little thought.... I wouldn't think it would be mispronounced too often... plus enough people are familiar with it to know how to say it anyways.
I like Rhys. I t goes fine with William (Will). I would not change the spelling.
As for pronunciation issues...I'm sure they will happen. However, Rhys is becoming more recognized. If someone mispronounces it then it's easy to correct them. I'm not a big fan of changing the traditional spelling so that other people don't have to be corrected.
...I would ever pronounce Rhys as "rise".
Edit: Typo. It's monday and no coffee :P
This. And we are naming this baby boy Rhys!
I realize I'm in the minority in that I don't love the name, but considering how many Rhys's are on this board, I'd say that it is headed towards trendy.

I also grew up with what many considered to be a difficult to pronounce last name and it sucked.

I'd call Rhys classic, the name is over a thousand years old. I have a 4yr old named Rhys and pronunciation is not an issue, in fact I'm surprised at how many people know of the name. But, I do have Irish/English/Welsh/Australian family and friends and it has ranked in the top 10 - 50 in those places forever.
The US ranking is in the 400's in the US, it was in the 700 or 800's when I looked at it 5 yrs ago, so it is getting better known, but will it become the new Aidan or even Declan? Only time will tell, but for now I'm glad to see other little guys with this great name.
