Girl name clicky poll

Our last name is Buchanan.

I don't mind a mouthful of a name, because I fall in the camp of "nobody ever says the middle name anyway".

All names are family names.

If you can think of a better middle name for Rosemary, please share. It's our new favorite name, but we're stumped for a good mn.

Elizabeth Bailey is my MIL's name...First and Last.  This is why I hate surnames as first/middle names.  What if she meets a guy in the future with the last name of "Bailey"?  It's not an uncommon name...

  • I really like Rosemary Elizabeth. Out of curiosity is that Bue (rhymes with blue)-canon or buck-canon, I've heard it both ways with bue being more common though.

  • I like Rosemary best too!  For a mn, could you use your maiden name or your own mn or your mom's name, etc.?

I am ok with surnames as mns b/c if she does get married to someone with that same ln, she can move her own maiden name to the mn spot.  Lots of women do that.

  • Love Rosemary. I like Elizabeth but not the nn Elle. Elle is too common now. If it was the nn Betsy or something, I'd choose that. Rosemary is beautiful though.

  • It is pronounced bew-cannon.

Like I said above, Bailey is a family name, that's why we would use it. I would never use my maiden name since I don't have a relationship with my father. I was happy to get rid of that name when I got married. :)

My mom and I both have the same mn, and she has no clue how that happened because she hates her mn, so I don't want to continue that. Her first name is Brooke. I'm meh on that as a mn. My grandmother is Kim, Rosemary Kim would be okay, I suppose. Other family names are Dolly and Bertha, so you can see why I'm sticking with what I have above.

I actually love Rosemary Elise, but DH hates that.

And I totally adore the nn Elle, I think it works well for both a child and adult. So it will definitely stay. Betsy and most other nicknames for Elizabeth are too cutesy, IMO.

    Thanks for your input!

  • Definitely Rosemary, even though I agree Elizabeth isn't the perfect MN. It's a perfect mix of popular enough to be recognized while still not trendy, and the NN options are awesome.

To play devil's advocate, most people I know (me included) have taken their maiden name as their middle name when they get married. If marrying a Bailey ever happened, she could be Elizabeth Buchanan Bailey.
