Sleeping After C-Section

I had my c-section a week and a half ago (Wednesday, September 5th).  I have not slept in my bed since the surgery.  I am afraid that during the night I will flip over onto my stomach, since that is how I slept before pregnancy and I want so bad to sleep like that again.  Am I being unreasonable?  Is it ok to sleep flat on my back, or even on my side at this point?  How do you sleep after your c-section?  Thank You! :)

Re: Sleeping After C-Section

  • I slept flat on my back. I was sort of worried about rolling over but I never did.

  • You can sleep however you are comfortable.  After my c/s with DS, it took several weeks before it was comfortable to sleep on my stomach, but I slept on my back or side.

  • I mainly slept on my back but would turn to my side occasionally. However, the pressure I felt when I slept on my side for the first few weeks was uncomfortable enough that I would wake up.

  • I slept flat on my back for weeks after the c/s. It hurt to even turn to the side so there was no way I was going to accidentally flip to my stomach... that being said, I hated it. I hate sleeping on my back and not being able to turn. And once it felt better to turn to my side I still couldn't (and can't) sleep on my stomach bc I'm breastfeeding and that's not recommended with bfing. It makes my boobs squirt milk.

  • yes you can sleep on your back or your side;  I used my snuggle pillow and slept on my side

  • I slept flat on my back....  I was too huge and swollen to roll over, gravity would not have been my friend, LOL.  I was fine to sleep on my stomach 2-3 weeks later, no issues.

  • Sleep however you're comfortable. It was too painful for me sleep on my stomach at first, and the effort it took to get there would never happen on accident. Go to bed!
