Another FET question - natural FET?

Sorry if my Qs are getting tiresome! I'm just trying to understand everything my RE and RI want to do. RI wants to use Letrozole during FET, RE says no. It does seem counterintuitive, but there was a study that showed it helps with lining and implantation in women who have endo. I think it would be similar to doing a natural FET, in which you would actually ovulate. In my case I doubt anything would make me ovulate, but I'm wondering, just for argument's sake, how a natural FET works as opposed to a medicated one.

Do you take any estrogen/progesterone for a natural FET? What would happen if I took Letrozole and but didn't actually ovulate - would it affect my hormones or the dosages of estrogen/progesterone I would need?

Trying to figure out if there's any argument I could use with the RE. Thanks!

Re: Another FET question - natural FET?

  • From what I understand, unmedicated would be progesterone only, if that. Y ovulate on your own so if you don't ovulate regularly its not a great option. Your RE tracks your surge and ovulation through monitoring and ET is scheduled. Lots of apps.

If you were on e2 and p4 AND letrozole, and no follies developed and you did not surge, then all your lining etc would be controlled by your meds. That is my guess.

  • Natural FET don't use suppression or estrogen drugs.  They just monitor when you are going to ovulate via b/w and u/s.

I don't ovulate regulary and my RE doesn't do them so it wasn't an option for me.

  • I'm not saying that natural would be an option for me; I'm just wondering how that would compare with using letrozole during a FET in order to try to convince the RE of the RI's plan.

  • It might work!  A girl in my resolve group did an IUI with a FET since she was doing a natural FET and actually releasing egg too.  She did get pregnant.

  • My DE cycles were medicated.  I know Vanessa did a natural FET and I remember her saying that although it is a lot of monitoring, she like the process.  Hopefully she will chime in...
I am AMA and all tests on H came back normal
3 failed IVF with OE and 2 failed frozen DE cycles
Last fresh hail mary DE cycle starting Feb 2013
    PAIF/SAIF always welcome
  • I did a natural fet to achieve this pregnancy.  U take nothing prior to the transfer.  U just go in for monitoring.  After u ovualte, the transfer is set for 5 days later (u take the steroids and antibiotics).  After the transfer, u do progesterone ( supps in my case bc u making ur own progesterone).  And that is it.
