TTC After a Loss

chinese food during 2ww????

SO I know that Chinese food is taboo during pregnancy because of the MSG.... ( I know you can order it from most places without MSG- but I am so not trusting and dont believe that they make a special order without msg- i'm really not a paranoid person) so what do you ladies think???? DO I chance eating it during my 2ww ( I really have a negative feeling and feel this isnt my cycle anyway)???? I am craving it and my DH just sent a text saying that we should order Chinese tonight ( guess we are craving the same thing!!!)

Re: chinese food during 2ww????

  • Really? Places still do that? All of the Chinese places around where I live have printed on their menus "no MSG" so I didn't think it was a common practice anymore. I don't have any advice. I guess if you are worried about it, I wouldn't especially since there's not really a way to know for sure.

The two places that deliver to my area DO still include MSG- I called and asked and they said pretty much everything has MSG but you can request to not have MSG put in... But, really, I dont believe that they will take the effort to make a separate dish without MSG.... maybe they would- but I just dont trust them....I guess I should just skip it until I know :(

  • Meh. I would eat sushi, drink, hot tub and do pretty much anything else during the 2ww.

I think it's fine if you're okay with it. I just hate putting life on hold for half of every month KWIM. I keep in the back of my mind "this might be the last time I get to enjoy this for awhile".

At this point, your little ball of cells is a resiliant little thing. If you're craving it I don't think it's a big deal. Just maybe don't eat it everyday! Smile

I agree with pkaren - and I am purposely having things during the 2WW that I'm not supposed to during pg - enjoy them while you can!

And also, I never heard that you weren't supposed to have Chinese food (or rather, MSG) during pg... making a mental note of that.

Same here. There are far too many more things to worry about. I think most Chinese food places in America have omitted MSG.

  • I didn't know that msg was bad during pregnancy...I know it's bad for migraine sufferers. Believe it or not, it's in a lot of salad dressings and everyday foods. I know this because I am a migraine sufferer. I think that Ken's Italian dressing has it. It's in most soups. It is often disguised under other names too. I'm mobile bumping or I'd find a link for you. Regardless, I'd say eat the chinese food!

If we avoided every potentially dangerous thing, we'd be missing out on a lot of enjoyable things 50 of the time!

Chinese food isn't necessarily taboo- but the MSG that is in Chinese food ( which is a MUCH higher concentration than is found in other foods) is not so good....

uuuuuuuummmmmmm..... I don't  think people in China necessarily eat the same type of "Chinese" food we eat..... but you do have a point- they are overpopulated- do people in China have less miscarriages and difficulty getting pregnant?

As pp said, msg is in a ton of things, especially soups and broths. Also, just in case you weren't joking, I believe that American take out Chinese food is pretty different from what Chinese people actually eat. I think it is ok to pick and choose what you want to avoid as long as it doesn't drive you too crazy. I am trying to avoid BPA, myself, but it is difficult.

Totally agree- HOWEVER- the amount of MSG found in Chinese restaurants ( in America- Yes- I agree the Chinese food in China is most likely WAY different than our " American Chinese " food) is significantly higher than in other foods- which is why I am concerned- and I guess if I am that concerned I should just skip it.

  • I'm a big believer in not putting life on hold in the 2WW. Drink til it's pink applies to much more than drinking. Just think, people with surpise BFPs live life as normal before they find out so I don't think there's much harm in it.

Not totally kidding about their food being different... It is somewhat different there

  • When I was pregnant the first time I gave up caffeine, threw away all my plastic food dishes, ate only organic produce, avoided baths, took a prenatal vitamin and DHA pill every day, gave up all artificial sweeteners, avoided toiletries with parabens, avoided unpastuerized cheeses, and even stopped standing near the microwave. You know what good all that did me? Not a damn thing because my baby's heart stopped beating at 18 weeks. So other than alcohol, I'm not giving up anything next time.
