Baby Showers

Registry question

Hi ladies,

I'm registering for baby stuff at Target and Babies R Us. Have you found it better to actually go to the store and register for items, or to go online? I've found that a lot of from these stores online aren't available in store. Unless I'm reading it wrong! I just want it to be convenient for family and friends.

Registering is overwhelming! Do any of you recommend a place to go to get the basics? Luckily I have a lot being handed down. :)

  • What I found is helpful is to go to the store and actually see in person what things look like and put them on the registry.  Then when you get home you can add or delete after doing some research on the items you have chosen.  It is true that there is a lot more on-line but try to figure out how your guests will purchase (on-line or in the store) and go from there.  Don't put on a lot that they won't be able to find in the store or they will just get frustrated (I know I would).  Keep in mind seasonal changes, clothing, etc. that gets clearanced or is just no longer available.
  • I liked going in the store... but i got sucked into a few "popular themed items" that were on display.... then i came home and reviewed what I had and added from the online... worked well.

  • DH and I went through the BRU catalogue and chose everything we thought we'd want/need.  We then went to the store to register.  It's good because you can actually see and touch the products you are registering for.  It definitely changed my mind on some of the things I'd picked from the catalogue.  Plus you get to use the scanner thing, which is just too cool.  Kinda sad that that was my last time doing it lol.
  • I did mine online, but I selected mostly the in store items. Some things were exclusivly online, but 80% of it was stuff that was in the two nearest stores to me.

  • We started in the store, but I started to get overwhelmed so we added/deleted from home after that.

This.  I started BRU in store, and then added/deleted online.  I tried to start a Target one in store, but they couldn't get it to work (?) so I gave up and just made one online.  I did make sure to filter most of the items to ones available in the store, and I really only made the Target one for convenience sake.  Hardly anyone actually shopped off the Target one except my one friend who doesn't live anywhere near a BRU, and my aunt who shopped at both.

We really just wanted the Target completion coupon since we live practically next door to one!

  • Do you think your guests will be planning to purchase in store (and the store that you'll register at) or buy on-line?  I personally started in store so I could see everything, then went home and tweaked it online.  We have a lot of out-of-town family that was going to order online, so it wasn't a problem to have internet-only items on the registry.

That said, I'm always frustrated when I go shopping for someone's shower and can't find most of the items in the store.  Also, some older relatives may not feel comfortable ordering online, or shower guests may wait until a day or two before the shower to go shopping and won't have time to order- if you have a lot of online-only items, you're probably not as likely to receive them as gifts.

  • On my big items, I researched them and made a fake registry.  I put whichever items I thought I might want, like two differetn carseats/travel systems on that registry.  Then I printed it out and took it to the store to start my real registry.  I liked having done the research on different items and then getting to pick out which items I wanted in person.   Then we wandered around and added the little stuff in store.

I also did this so I can get the completion coupons early, I will share, the coupons, with my aunts and grandma who are planning on going in together to buy one of my bigger items.
